For a fitness tracker you can buy with documented features now, choose Google’s Pixel Watch 5. Fitbit Edge is not listed on Google’s current product comparison page; its reported features come from leak coverage, not an official announcement. If Edge’s reported longer battery life or smaller tracker design appeals to you, wait for Google to confirm its name, availability, specifications and phone support before deciding.
Is Fitbit Edge available to buy?
Not according to the sources available as of October 7, 2026. Google’s current wearables comparison page lists Pixel Watch 5 and Fitbit Air, but not Edge. TechRadar and Android Central have reported leaked images and specifications, but those reports do not establish an official launch, final product name, price or release date. That means Edge is not yet a fully documented alternative to buy.
For this comparison, “Pixel Watch” means the currently listed Pixel Watch 5. Google identifies it as a smartwatch with fitness features; leaked descriptions characterize Edge as a smaller tracker with a limited display and basic smart functions. That distinction is provisional until Google confirms Edge.

Choose Pixel Watch 5 if you want a fitness-focused smartwatch now
Google’s published feature list makes Pixel Watch 5 the clearer choice for someone who wants training metrics alongside smartwatch functions. It offers more than 50 exercise modes and named features such as Daily Readiness Score, cardio load and heart-zone tools. Google also specifies dual-frequency GPS. Those specifications do not prove better tracking accuracy in a particular sport, but they give buyers a documented picture of what the watch supports.
Wait for Edge confirmation if battery life or a smaller tracker matters most
Leak coverage describes Edge as a smaller, lighter tracker with a display, automatic activity tracking and up to seven days of battery life. If accurate, that could suit someone who prefers a simpler device and less frequent charging. However, the seven-day figure, GPS details, exercise options and smart functions remain unconfirmed. Do not buy—or delay another purchase—on the assumption that those reports will become final specifications.

Consider Fitbit Air if you want a current, screen-free tracker
Google lists Fitbit Air with up to seven days of battery life and more than 40 exercise modes. It is a screen-free tracker, not a smaller version of Pixel Watch 5 and not a confirmed substitute for Edge. Google lists Android 11.0 or newer and iOS 16.4 or newer for Fitbit Air, making it the documented option in this lineup for iPhone owners seeking a tracker.
Check phone compatibility before choosing
Pixel Watch 5 requires Android 12.0 or newer according to Google’s comparison, so do not assume it will work with an iPhone. Fitbit Air is listed for Android 11.0 or newer and iOS 16.4 or newer. While reports say Edge may support both Android and iOS, that compatibility has not been confirmed by Google. iPhone owners should choose a currently documented compatible product rather than relying on the leak.

- Cardio load measures how hard your heart works so you can see how hard you’ve pushed; compare trends to see if you’re under- or over-training[3]
What to know about fitness-tracking accuracy
Google explains that Fitbit devices use optical heart-rate sensors to detect changes in blood volume in wrist capillaries. A wrist reading is affected by physiology, device placement and activity; wrist movement during cycling or weightlifting can interfere with the signal, and readings may differ from a chest strap or another device. Neither the feature lists nor the leak reports establish that one of these products is more accurate or clinically superior.
For a better wrist reading, Google recommends wearing the sensor against the skin, about a finger’s width above the wrist bone outside exercise. During exercise, wear the device snugly and a little higher on the wrist without constricting it. A fitness tracker is not a substitute for clinical assessment.
