To sync a Fitbit Aria Air, add it in the Google Health app, then keep the app open on a nearby phone or tablet while you weigh in. The scale sends measurements over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), not Wi-Fi.
Before you set up Aria Air
- Install the Google Health app on a compatible phone or tablet and sign in to a Google account.
- Turn on Bluetooth, update the app to its latest version, and keep the phone or tablet near the scale.
- Check the scale’s battery icon. Aria Air uses three AAA batteries; replace them if the display indicates a low battery.
Google’s current support material calls the companion app Google Health, although some scale help pages and menus may still use “Fitbit” wording.
Add Aria Air in the Google Health app
- Open Google Health and go to Connections.
- Choose the option to connect a Pixel or Fitbit device or scale.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to add Aria Air. App screens can change between versions, so follow the current prompts if the labels differ.
Sync a weigh-in
- Open Google Health on the nearby phone or tablet and leave it on the Today tab.
- With Bluetooth enabled, complete a weigh-in on the scale.
- Check the app for the measurement after weighing.
Google’s instruction is to “Have the Google Health app open on your nearby phone or tablet while you complete a weigh-in.” The scale communicates with the app over Bluetooth; it does not use the router-based Wi-Fi setup used by Aria and Aria 2.

If Aria Air does not sync
Check the connection conditions first
- Keep Google Health open during the weigh-in and confirm Bluetooth is on.
- Install the latest version of the app and keep the intended phone close to the scale.
- If you have used more than one phone or tablet, keep only the intended device nearby while testing.
- Check that the scale battery is not critically low. Other active Bluetooth connections can also interfere.
Try Google’s troubleshooting sequence
- Force-quit Google Health, then reopen it.
- Turn Bluetooth off on the phone or tablet, then turn it back on.
- Restart the phone or tablet.
- Uninstall and reinstall Google Health.
- If the issue continues, try signing in on another phone or tablet.
- If syncing still fails, remove other Fitbit devices from your account and from the phone’s Bluetooth device list, then try again.
These steps are not a guaranteed fix; Google’s help page does not identify one cause that explains every sync failure. If the scale still will not sync, contact Google or Fitbit customer support.

Make sure you have the right Fitbit scale
Aria Air is a body scale, not the separate screenless tracker called Google Fitbit Air. The three scale models also use different batteries and connection methods:

Using Wi-Fi setup instructions for Aria or Aria 2 will not set up Aria Air. Google lists Aria Air’s maximum detectable weight as 397 pounds (180 kilograms, or 28 stone, 5 pounds).
