The Fisher & Paykel RF500QNB1 is a 498L, four-door refrigerator freezer with a 324L fridge and 174L freezer. Its 790 mm width is relatively narrow for that capacity, and Australian specifications list a 5-star energy rating and 320 kWh/year. The key trade-off is that this model page lists no water dispenser or ice maker. Publicly accessible information does not reveal CHOICE’s expert score or measured performance results, so those claims cannot establish how well it keeps food at an even temperature in independent testing.
What kind of refrigerator is the RF500QNB1?
It is a four-door, French-door-style refrigerator freezer in Fisher & Paykel’s Series 7 range. The manufacturer lists 498L total capacity: 324L for refrigeration and 174L for the freezer. Listed features include adjustable shelves, six adjustable door shelves, a humidity-controlled produce bin, four freezer bins, two freezer trays, LED lighting, door alarms, fast freeze, bottle chill, automatic defrost, a frost-free freezer, an inverter-controlled compressor and Sabbath mode. Specified noise is 40 dBA.
The RF500QNB1 also has Wi-Fi and SmartHQ app connectivity. Fisher & Paykel describes ActiveSmart Foodcare as technology that learns how the refrigerator is used and adjusts temperature, airflow and humidity to help keep food fresher for longer. That is the manufacturer’s feature description, not an independently established result for food freshness.
Will it fit your kitchen?
The listed external dimensions are 1790 mm high, 790 mm wide and 692 mm deep. Depth without the door is listed as 614 mm. Fisher & Paykel’s minimum cabinet dimensions are 1810 mm internal height, 830 mm inside frame width and 640 mm internal depth.

| Measurement | RF500QNB1 specification |
|---|---|
| External height × width × depth | 1790 × 790 × 692 mm |
| Depth without door | 614 mm |
| Minimum cabinet internal height | 1810 mm |
| Minimum cabinet inside-frame width | 830 mm |
| Minimum cabinet internal depth | 640 mm |
These measurements do not by themselves confirm that the refrigerator will work in a particular kitchen. Check the complete installation guide for the exact unit, and allow for ventilation, door swing, access to the intended position and the delivery route. Fisher & Paykel notes that specifications may change.
Does the RF500QNB1 have ice and water?
The RF500QNB1 product information reviewed here lists no ice maker or water dispenser. If built-in ice and water are essential, do not assume another RF500QNB1 listing includes them: Fisher & Paykel’s distinct RF500QNUB1 is the related configuration that lists a slimline water dispenser and internal ice maker.

The energy figures above are Fisher & Paykel’s Australian specifications, not a comparison of independently measured real-world consumption. The RF500QNUB1 also lists replacement filter FWC5 / 868686 as a separately sold accessory; confirm accessory compatibility for the precise model before ordering.
How much electricity does it use?
Fisher & Paykel lists the RF500QNB1 at 320 kWh per year and 5 stars under Australian energy specifications. CHOICE’s public listing also presents 320 kWh/year and 5 stars as claimed figures. These published figures are not proof of independent energy testing or a prediction of a household’s actual electricity use, which may vary with installation and use.

- Activesmart Foodcare - This refrigerator freezer adapts to daily use by cooling and defrosting only when needed. ActiveSmart Foodcare technology uses energy efficiently without compromising on food care.
- Flexible Storage - Adjustable shelves and door storage give you plenty of room to stack and pack all your groceries. Storage bins give you full access inside when they’re pulled open and can be easily removed to clean.
- Easy to use - Touch control panel has been designed to be intuitive for ease to use, and is conveniently placed near the front of the fridge.
Fisher & Paykel also gives an in-use emissions estimate of 195.3 kg CO2e per year, calculated using market-specific energy-label consumption and regional emissions factors. It is an Australian-market estimate, not a universal emissions figure.
What do independent reviews establish?
CHOICE identifies the RF500QNB1 as tested in 2023 and lists basic claimed specifications, including 498L capacity, 320 kWh/year and a two-year warranty. Its publicly accessible page does not show the expert rating, recommendation status or detailed results for temperature stability, temperature evenness, temperature range, response to outside temperature, default settings, heat-load processing, noise testing or running costs. It is therefore not possible to infer a favorable or unfavorable CHOICE verdict from the public listing.
