You can make a Fire TV home screen easier to navigate by moving frequently used apps forward, uninstalling apps you no longer use, removing individual items from Recent, and using separate profiles when household viewing gets mixed together. These controls depend on your device and interface: Amazon says the Fire TV experience differs across some devices, and category availability can vary by country and model.
The steps below reflect Amazon’s published instructions, not a claim of first-hand testing. Follow the labels shown on your TV if they differ from these directions.
1. Move the apps you use most toward the front
Putting your regular apps near the beginning of the Apps row can save time scrolling. On supported devices with the older interface, highlight an app, press Menu on the remote, choose Move or Reorder, and move the app to the position you want. Amazon’s instructions for devices with the New Fire TV Experience instead say to hold Select to open app options, then choose the reordering control.

On the redesigned interface, Amazon announced in 2026 that users can pin up to 20 apps to the home screen, up from six; that change applies to the redesigned experience, not every Fire TV. Amazon’s announcement also cited a Gracenote-reported U.S. average of 12 minutes spent searching for something to watch, compared with 10.5 minutes in 2023. That figure is context for the redesign, not a measurement of how much time rearranging apps will save you.

2. Uninstall apps you no longer use
If an app is still taking up a place in your Apps row even though nobody in the household uses it, remove it where your interface offers that option. Amazon’s New Fire TV Experience guide says holding Select on an app exposes options including uninstalling it and reordering the Apps row. The exact gesture and available choices should not be assumed to work on every model or interface.
Use the on-screen option for the app you intend to remove, and check the label before confirming. Removing an app is different from hiding a recommendation for it; this method concerns the installed app shortcut.

3. Remove individual items from Recent
To clear a specific recently watched item, highlight it, press Menu, and choose Remove from Recent when that option appears. Amazon documents this action for individual items, not for clearing every recommendation or row.

Amazon’s instructions for removing an item from Recent explain the supported control.

4. Use profiles when viewing activity is mixed together
Separate profiles can help when different people’s viewing habits are shaping the same recommendations. Amazon says profiles personalize selected features, including watchlists, viewing history, recommendations, and watch progress. This changes the personalized experience for profile users; it does not make every app, purchase, or subscription private to one profile.
Amazon says subscriptions to apps, rentals, and purchased content are shared across profiles on the account. A Fire TV can have up to six profiles, including up to four Amazon Kids profiles. Why your Fire TV may not show the same controls
Amazon lists the New Fire TV Experience for Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Generation), Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Generation), Amazon Ember Mini-LED Series and Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series (2024 Release), Amazon Ember QLED Series and Fire TV Omni QLED Series (2025 Release), Amazon Ember 4-Series and Fire TV 4-Series (2025 Release), and Amazon Ember 2-Series and Fire TV 2-Series. Amazon cautions that category availability may vary by country and device. The list and caveat are in Amazon’s New Fire TV Experience guide.
If a button instruction does not match what appears on your screen, use the visible menu labels rather than assuming your remote or model is broken. Amazon’s general Fire TV navigation help notes that the experience differs across some devices and that customization varies.
