In a Nov. 25, 2014 year-end roundup, InfoWorld Executive Editor for Global Content Galen Gruman labeled a range of mobile products and efforts “flops” or disappointments. His clearest verdict was that Amazon’s Fire Phone was “the biggest flameout.” The list is an opinion-led collection across very different categories—not a measured ranking—and the article text available today does not establish all 15 entries or independently verify the products’ commercial outcomes.

Why the Fire Phone drew the strongest verdict
Gruman’s central criticism was that the Fire Phone’s close tie to Amazon shopping did not add up to a sufficiently compelling proposition for customers. He called it “the biggest flameout” and “the poster child of how not to develop a product.” That is the author’s assessment, not a sales ranking or independently established measure of failure.
