Marisha Ray has reportedly been cast as the voice of Polydroid Shiva, a stylized, NPC-style take on the summon, in Final Fantasy VII Revelation. The casting was announced at a New York Comic Con panel on October 8, 2026, according to secondary coverage from Kotaku and Strafecast. Square Enix’s own confirmation of the casting, title details and release date had not been located at the time of writing, so treat the specifics below as reported rather than officially verified.
What was reportedly announced
Both reports describe the same core announcement: at a Final Fantasy VII Revelation panel during New York Comic Con, Square Enix showed a behind-the-scenes clip and revealed that Ray voices a version of Shiva that appears as a non-player character. Kotaku’s Ash Parrish, writing on October 8, 2026, frames the news around the fact that this is another Critical Role performer joining the cast, and notes that this Shiva is “not the Shiva you think.” Strafecast’s report from the same day uses the headline “NPC-ified Version of Shiva,” which matches that reading.
Who Polydroid Shiva is, as reported
Kotaku describes Polydroid Shiva as a stylized, digitized version of the familiar summon. It compares the look to characters from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which is a visual comparison only. Nothing in the reports establishes that Rebirth and Revelation are the same game or share a storyline.
The name carries the summon’s identity, but the reports stress that this is not the classic Shiva role. Readers should not assume it is the same ally character from earlier entries in the series.
#1 Best Overall
- A Square Enix import
- From the popular video game series
- Includes figure stand and interchangeable hands
- Highly detailed articulated figure
The Vincent Valentine clip
The clip reportedly shows Polydroid Shiva speaking with Vincent Valentine. Ray’s husband, Matt Mercer, is identified in the reports as Vincent’s voice actor. Strafecast describes the exchange as Shiva addressing Vincent and insisting he try the slopes.
The snowboarding minigame connection
Kotaku’s account suggests the character is tied to a snowboarding minigame at Gold Saucer. That link is an inference from the clip and the dialogue, not an announced feature. Neither report explains the minigame’s full context, how it fits into the story, or whether it appears in the final game as described.

Keep the two claims separate when you read coverage:
- What the clip reportedly shows: Polydroid Shiva talking to Vincent Valentine and pushing him toward the slopes.
- What reporters infer: that this is a Gold Saucer snowboarding minigame, and that Shiva’s role is tied to it.
Release date and what is still unconfirmed
Strafecast reports that Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled for April 8, 2027. That date is secondary reporting and had not been verified against an official Square Enix announcement when this article was written.
Rank #3
- Based on the updated Remake look
- Jessie includes interchangeable smiling and winking face pieces
- Machine gun and various interchangeable hands are included
- Features updated (version 2) Cloud with additional interchangeable hands to be posed riding the motorcycle
- Figure stand included
Several details remain unconfirmed:
- The casting of Ray as Polydroid Shiva, which rests on the panel reports rather than an official Square Enix statement.
- The April 8, 2027 release date.
- The exact wording of the panel exchanges. Strafecast’s quotes are their own transcription and should be checked against an official recording if one is published.
- The role and scale of the snowboarding minigame.
Remarks from the cast
Strafecast reports Matt Mercer’s reaction to sharing a scene with his wife: “It was amazing, are you kidding me!” He is quoted joking that he hoped the casting was not a “nepotism scenario,” and then saying the team had not known Ray was his wife. These are remarks as reported, not a verified transcript.
Strafecast also attributes an estimate to Cloud voice actor Cody Christian, who put the total recording time in the booth at “800 hours collectively.” That is one performer’s anecdotal estimate, not a production statistic, and it does not describe the whole game’s development.

- Good product for use
How to verify the news
- Check Square Enix’s official press or news pages for a Final Fantasy VII Revelation announcement that names the cast and release date.
- Look for the New York Comic Con panel recording or an official summary of the Revelation segment.
- Compare any new quote or clip with the original panel footage before repeating it, because secondary reports can paraphrase or misquote dialogue.
Until an official source confirms the details, Marisha Ray’s role, the Vincent Valentine clip, the snowboarding connection and the April 8, 2027 date should all be read as reported claims from the October 8, 2026 coverage.
