Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, has reportedly completed 46 playthroughs while checking different parts of the game. The figure describes development work—not 46 identical, completionist runs—and comes from Hobby Consolas’ account of a GameSpot interview.
What does the reported 46-playthrough count mean?
Hobby Consolas reported in 2026 that Hamaguchi had completed 46 playthroughs while reviewing the game. The runs served different purposes: he sometimes skipped optional battles to concentrate on the story, while other passes were used to check different elements.
The distinction matters: a developer testing a game can vary what they inspect from one run to another. The reported count does not establish that Hamaguchi completed every optional activity 46 times, or that a typical player should expect to do so. Hobby Consolas links the count to a GameSpot interview, but the specific interview page was not available for direct verification here, so the number is best treated as secondary reporting rather than a transcript-confirmed quotation. Does that mean a normal playthrough takes more than 100 hours?
No. The over-100-hour estimate has a narrower scope: Hamaguchi was reported as saying that a standard start-to-finish run would take more than 100 hours if he reviewed and checked every asset and element. That is a director’s comprehensive development-check estimate, not a measured average, a promised completion time, or a benchmark for players.

Hamaguchi’s reported approach also varied by purpose: story-focused progress could omit optional battles, while an asset-by-asset inspection required much more scrutiny. The available reporting gives no comparable player-time figures for a story-focused run or for completing optional content.

That same reporting says Hamaguchi found fan interest in character side stories interesting, while explaining that the team had focused on completing Revelation. It does not confirm that any separate character-story projects are in development.
