The official sources available for this article do not confirm which characters or story scenes appear in the Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis Final Trailer. They do establish what the game is meant to be, when it launched, and how Square Enix framed its connection to the wider Final Fantasy VII story. The details below separate those confirmed points from the parts that remain unverified.

Which trailer is which

Square Enix’s FINAL FANTASY PORTAL SITE lists a video titled “FINAL FANTASY VII EVER CRISIS | Final Trailer.” The listing does not show the video’s date or a scene-by-scene description. Square Enix also published a separate video on its official YouTube channel called “Countdown to Launch Trailer.” The two titles should not be treated as the same asset unless you have confirmed that yourself by watching the Final Trailer.

What Square Enix said the game is

Square Enix described EVER CRISIS as an entry in the FINAL FANTASY VII RPG series. Its Countdown to Launch Trailer description says players can revisit memorable moments from Final Fantasy VII and follow the journey of a young Sephiroth, combining classic and new stories set in the FFVII universe. Square Enix also described the presentation as retro-style visuals combined with modern graphics.

These are the publisher’s own descriptions from the launch period. The available sources do not confirm that every one of these elements appears in the Final Trailer.

Launch and pricing, as announced in 2023

The Countdown to Launch Trailer description announced a launch date of September 7, 2023, listed iOS and Android as platforms, and described the game as free-to-play with in-app purchases. Square Enix’s release announcement gave the same date and platforms. These were launch facts from 2023. They are not a statement about how the game is distributed or accessed today.

Gameplay as Square Enix described it

According to the same description, players can team up favorite characters, customize them with iconic gear and weapons, and fight in solo or co-op modes. These points come from Square Enix’s marketing description, not from a review of the game.

Where the wider Final Fantasy VII story fits

Square Enix’s official Final Fantasy VII franchise page describes EVER CRISIS as a reimagining of the Final Fantasy VII timeline. The same page identifies CRISIS CORE – FINAL FANTASY VII– REUNION as a prequel centered on Zack Fair. That page is useful for understanding the franchise’s timeline, but it does not show that Crisis Core – Reunion is connected to the Final Trailer or appears in it.

Service status: a scheduled shutdown in 2026

A PC Gamer report dated July 8, 2026 said Square Enix announced that Ever Crisis service would end on October 6, 2026, and that sales of Red Crystal had already stopped. Square Enix’s own notice was not reviewed for this article, so the shutdown date is reported rather than confirmed by the publisher here. The report also does not say whether players can still access the story after service ends.

The scheduled end date has now passed. If you want to play or review the story, check Square Enix’s official channels for the current status before relying on any older guide, store listing, or trailer page.

What you can check yourself

  • Open the Final Trailer from Square Enix’s FINAL FANTASY PORTAL SITE and note its date and on-screen characters directly.
  • Compare the Final Trailer with the Countdown to Launch Trailer to see whether any footage overlaps.
  • Look for Square Enix’s official shutdown notice to confirm the end-of-service date and any rules for story access.

Scene-level claims about the Final Trailer should wait until the video itself has been watched and described, since the published listings do not supply that detail.
