The FiiO DM15 AKM is a portable CD player that can also operate as a USB DAC, Bluetooth transmitter, and digital transport. Its feature set is unusually broad for a CD player, including 3.5 mm and 4.4 mm headphone outputs, line outputs, and shared optical/coaxial output. FiiO publishes detailed specifications, but the available independent review coverage concerns the different DM15 R2R model, so those reviews do not establish how the AKM sounds or holds up in use.
What the DM15 AKM is—and what it is not
FiiO describes the DM15 as a “Portable Stereo CD Player,” but it is designed to do more than play discs. FiiO lists CD playback, USB DAC, Bluetooth transmitter, digital transport, and CD-ripping functions on its DM15 product page. That makes it a flexible option for someone who wants to play a CD collection and connect other digital audio sources without buying separate components.
The AKM name matters. FiiO’s overview identifies dual AK4493S DACs, while its parameter page specifies AK4493SEQ ×2. The separately sold DM15 R2R is a different variant with FiiO’s proprietary R2R DAC; its reviews and measurements should not be treated as tests of this AKM model. FiiO’s product descriptions make sound-quality claims, but no independent listening results for the AKM version are established here.

Play CDs, or use it as a USB DAC
In CD mode, the DM15 AKM plays discs through its headphone, line, or digital outputs. In USB DAC mode, it accepts audio over USB and, according to FiiO, supports PCM up to 384 kHz/32-bit and native DSD256. These are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee that every computer, player, or software setup will deliver those formats without configuration.

Send audio to Bluetooth headphones or speakers
The DM15 AKM can transmit Bluetooth audio using SBC, aptX, aptX HD, aptX LL, aptX Adaptive, and aptX Lossless, according to FiiO. The receiving headphones or speakers must support the codec you want to use. The specifications do not establish independent wireless range, connection stability, or real-world codec negotiation behavior.
Use its headphone, line, and digital outputs
FiiO lists a 3.5 mm single-ended headphone output and a 4.4 mm balanced headphone output, with a recommended headphone impedance range of 8–350 Ω for each. That range is a compatibility recommendation, not a promise of the same volume or performance with every headphone. The 3.5 mm and 4.4 mm connections can also provide line output. The 3.5 mm shared output can be switched to optical or coaxial digital output, so check its selected role before connecting equipment.

These are the maximum formats and output roles FiiO lists on its DM15 parameters page. The 3.5 mm socket is shared between analog and digital functions; confirm the selected mode and cable type before using it in a system.

CD ripping: WAV files and a storage requirement
FiiO says the player can rip tracks from a CD to WAV files on external storage, including while listening. The storage must be formatted as FAT32. For ripping or local firmware updates, FiiO recommends a Type-C flash drive no larger than 32 GB. That recommendation is specifically about these uses; it should not be read as a general claim about every storage device the player can access.

Battery life and charging
FiiO publishes runtimes of six hours for CD playback and nine hours for USB DAC use. These figures come from separate manufacturer tests with a 32 Ω load, display off, bass and EQ off, and D.MODE off. For the CD test, ESP was on; for the USB DAC test, ESP was off. FiiO also specifies volume 24 on the 3.5 mm output or 18 on the 4.4 mm output. The figures are not independent everyday-use measurements, and the different test settings make them unsuitable as a direct mode-to-mode comparison.
FiiO says the unit supports QC3.0, PD2.0, and PD3.0 fast charging, with charging taking about two hours under PD3.0. Actual results depend on the power source and charging conditions.

Size and portability
FiiO gives approximate dimensions of 144 × 137 × 25.5 mm, excluding the feet and knob, and an approximate weight of 471.5 g. Those figures put the DM15 AKM closer to a substantial portable component than a pocket-size music player. It may suit a desk, listening room, or bag, but the weight and footprint are worth considering if you expect to carry it every day.
What can—and cannot—be concluded about the AKM model
The published specification supports a feature-led assessment: the DM15 AKM combines CD playback, USB DAC use, Bluetooth transmission, digital output, and ripping in one device, with a wide choice of analog connections. FiiO identifies the internal DACs and provides format and battery figures, but published specifications alone do not establish sound quality, durability, or the consistency of the user experience. Independent reviews of the DM15 R2R cannot fill that gap because it uses a different DAC implementation.

For a buyer, the main fit question is whether these modes and connectors are useful enough to justify a device this size. It is most compelling if you want a single unit to handle physical CDs as well as several wired or wireless audio roles. If your decision depends on measured output performance, AKM-specific listening comparisons, long-term reliability, current regional availability, or price, those points are not established by the specifications cited here.
