The October 8, 2026, Morning Squawk roundup covered five threads ahead of the trading day: Federal Reserve signals and inflation expectations, PepsiCo’s earnings, renewed Iran tensions and oil, technology announcements, and campaign donations. The figures and developments below are attributed to that roundup; they are a dated snapshot, not a current market update.
1. Fed minutes pointed to the possibility of another rate hike
The roundup said minutes from the Federal Reserve’s September meeting indicated that officials saw another rate increase before the end of 2026. It did not identify a specific date for a move, so the account suggests a possible policy direction rather than a firm timetable.
Inflation expectations and market context
The roundup also reported that a New York Fed consumer survey put the public’s 12-month inflation outlook at its highest level since 2023, while a smaller share of households expected to be financially better off in a year. Separately, it described a New York Fed paper finding that, without President Donald Trump’s tariffs, prices for many everyday goods would have fallen over the prior year and early 2026.

U.S. market indexes ended Wednesday by breaking their winning streaks. These are dated reports; the roundup does not establish current yields, prices, or market performance.

2. PepsiCo beat quarterly expectations but lowered its full-year forecast
According to the roundup, PepsiCo exceeded Wall Street expectations for third-quarter revenue and earnings, with net sales up 5.6%. International business accounted for 41% of year-to-date net revenue, while the North America beverage division continued to shrink.
Growth abroad and pressure at home
The company’s domestic turnaround effort, as described in the roundup, centered on ingredient innovation and advertising. Despite the reported quarterly beat, PepsiCo cut its full-year earnings forecast with one quarter remaining. The roundup’s reference to Diet Pepsi was incidental; it did not assess the drink or compare products.

3. Iran tensions lifted oil, while a diesel-tax order raised questions
The roundup reported that crude prices rose more than 4% that morning after Trump said at a Texas campaign rally that he no longer wanted a deal with Iran. It framed the market move as a reaction to renewed escalation fears and reported that NBC News had said Trump and his team discussed potentially resuming military operations. The account does not, by itself, establish the status of negotiations or whether any military action would follow.

What the roundup said about off-road diesel
It also reported that Trump signed an executive order allowing truckers to use off-road diesel on highways without paying federal excise taxes. Analysts cited in the roundup cautioned that the measure might defer those payments rather than eliminate them. The account does not settle the order’s legal or tax effect.

4. The roundup flagged a Microsoft laptop and a Meta AI rollout
The technology section reported that Microsoft announced a laptop using an Nvidia chip, priced at $2,599, with preorders open and shipping expected the following week. It also said Meta planned to roll out a version of its Muse AI agent for Windows. These are announcements and availability details as reported in the October 8 roundup, not confirmation of present availability.
The account additionally named Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, and Dell CEO Michael Dell in connection with a planned White House honors event. It did not provide enough detail to establish the event’s final arrangements.

5. A defined group of top donors leaned Republican in the reported analysis
The roundup said CNBC’s analysis of Federal Election Commission records found that 14 of the 20 largest donors and donor groups were exclusively or almost entirely backing Republican candidates or aligned groups. That finding concerns the specific top-donor group in the analysis; it is not a measure of all political giving.

Spending window and Democratic fundraising
It also reported that conservative super PACs outspent Democratic counterparts by almost 2-to-1 between Labor Day and September 25. The roundup described Democratic donors as increasingly bypassing the Democratic National Committee, with fundraisers citing dissatisfaction after the previous election cycle, concerns about leadership, and the influence of the party’s democratic-socialist bloc. The spending comparison applies to the stated period, not to a full election cycle.

How to read this market-morning snapshot
The roundup brought together policy signals, corporate results, market reactions, technology news, and campaign-finance reporting. Its reported percentages, prices, and event details belong to October 8, 2026, and should not be treated as live figures or independently confirmed updates. The distinctions matter: the Fed account left rate timing unspecified, the diesel-tax effect was questioned, and the donor statistics described a defined group and time window.
