A federal criminal complaint was reported against Yahya Mohamed Mosleh, 51, and his son, Islam Yahya Mosleh, 18, in connection with the death of University of Mississippi freshman Aidan Hamilton. The charges are allegations, not findings of guilt. Toxicology results were still pending when ABC News published its report on October 2, 2026, so no specific substance had been established as the cause of Hamilton’s death.
What the federal complaint alleges
ABC News reported that the complaint accuses the Moslehs of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. The two men, who investigators say worked at Puffs Vape, Tobacco and Beer Store in Oxford, Mississippi, had been arrested the previous week. The complaint was reported in connection with Hamilton’s death; it does not establish that either defendant caused his death.
The reported account did not identify the federal statute section or provide a docket number. A separately accessible federal filing or official release was not available in the reporting cited here.
What is known about Aidan Hamilton’s death
Hamilton, an Ole Miss freshman from Englewood, Colorado, was found dead on campus on September 21, 2026. Investigators reportedly found packages described as suspected kratom derivatives, with some tablets missing. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Mississippi said the cause of death “appeared to be consistent with a drug overdose,” according to ABC News. Toxicology was ongoing at the time of publication; neither the cause nor a particular substance had been confirmed.

How investigators linked the complaint to the Oxford store
According to ABC News’ account of the federal complaint, the Lafayette County Metro Narcotics Unit traced Hamilton’s bank records to multiple purchases at Puffs Vape, Tobacco and Beer Store. An undercover informant reportedly bought pills advertised as “7 O Kratom.” Officers searched the store on September 24 and seized more than 500 units of kratom, a figure ABC attributed to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Mississippi investigators reportedly arrested the father and son on September 24 and charged them with possession of Schedule I controlled substances with intent to distribute. ABC subsequently reported the federal complaint. These are reported investigative steps and allegations, not a court finding that the substances were illegal or that the defendants were guilty.

How Robert Strang’s death fits into the reporting
Junior Robert Strang, from Atlanta, was found dead at a different location about an hour after Hamilton was found on September 21. ABC reported that suspected kratom-derivative packages were also found and that the preliminary observation about the cause of death was overdose-consistent. Toxicology remained pending for Strang as well.
