If Lock Profile is missing on Facebook, first check the three-dot menu on your profile. If it is not there, review the privacy controls under Settings & privacy → Settings → Audience and visibility. Profile Lock is not available to every account or in every location, and the available evidence does not establish a complete current eligibility rule. You can still tighten the individual privacy settings Facebook provides, but they do not necessarily reproduce every effect of Profile Lock.
Where to look for Lock Profile
- Open your Facebook profile.
- Tap or click the three-dot menu near the profile controls.
- Look for Lock Profile. If Facebook shows it, follow the on-screen confirmation steps.
Meta’s 2022 digital-safety guide demonstrates this route through the profile menu and Profile Settings. The guide is dated, so the exact label or placement may differ in the current app or on desktop. Meta’s digital-safety guide
Why the option may be missing
Availability varies by location and account
Profile Lock is region-specific, but a definitive, current list of eligible countries is not established by the sources available here. Facebook also says that settings can vary by profile type. Check Facebook’s current Help Center guidance for your account rather than relying on an old country list or a third-party eligibility checklist. Facebook Help Center

A secondary 2025 guide suggests Professional Mode may be associated with the missing control, but Facebook’s surfaced Help Center information does not set out a complete official eligibility rule. You can check whether Professional Mode is enabled in your own Facebook settings, but turning it off is not a guaranteed fix. Techpoint Africa

A different interface may show different labels
Menu placement can vary by platform and app version. Checking another Facebook interface or updating the app may help you find a control whose location has changed, but neither is established as a way to overcome regional or account eligibility.
Adjust privacy settings if Profile Lock is unavailable
Go to Settings & privacy → Settings → Audience and visibility. Review the controls Facebook provides for your profile and content, especially:

Facebook lists these as separate privacy areas, and their availability can differ by profile type. They let you restrict particular information or activities; they should not be treated as a setting-by-setting equivalent of Profile Lock. Facebook’s privacy settings guidance
What Profile Lock does—and does not do
Meta’s 2022 guide describes a locked profile as limiting non-friends’ access to timeline posts and other photos; it also shows a lock indicator when the feature is enabled. Its confirmation message says, “Only your friends can see the photos and posts on your timeline.” The precise interface and behavior may change, so use Facebook’s current on-screen explanation when deciding whether to enable it. Locking does not make an account invisible. A 2024 USENIX SOUPS research poster reports that people can still find a locked profile in Facebook search and send messages and friend requests. Its interviews involved 21 users in Bangladesh; that is not a representative survey of Facebook users worldwide. Profile Lock also should not be understood as protection against account compromise. After changing settings, review your profile’s public view and inspect individual profile details and photos. Facebook says current profile and cover photos are public, so do not assume those images become private simply because other content is restricted. Facebook Help Center

- Move and talk freely with Smart Camera: With Smart Camera, you don’t have to worry about being out of frame. Whether you’re moving around the kitchen, prepping dinner or chasing the kids through the living room, Smart Camera adjusts to follow the action. And as more people enter a room, Smart Camera automatically widens to keep everyone in view, so you don’t miss a moment
- Private by design: Facebook doesn't listen to, view or keep the contents of your Portal video calls. Calls on Portal are encrypted, so conversations stay between you and those you're calling. You can also completely disable the camera and microphone with a single tap, or block the camera lens with the camera cover provided
- Connect with friends, even if they don't have Portal: Easily call friends and family on Messenger — calls can be made seamlessly to and from smartphones and tablets. And you can bring up to six other people into a group call
- Alexa built-in: Portal has Alexa built-in, so you can ask a question, set a timer, add items to your shopping list, control your smart home or more. Just ask
- Experience more together: With Portal, story time will never be the same. With music, animation and augmented reality effects, Portal lets you become some of your children’s favorite characters as you read along to well-loved stories. And if friends or family also have Portal, you can listen to your favorite music together as if you were in the same room, without delays or feedback
If a search engine still displays profile information after you change its Facebook visibility, the result may be a cached copy. Facebook’s guidance says it can remain visible until the search engine updates or removes it. Facebook’s search-engine troubleshooting guidance
