The Football Association says an Independent Commission decision in the Manchester City case has “significant implications for the integrity of the game.” In a statement published on 2 October 2026, the FA said it is considering the decision and will take action where appropriate, but declined to comment further while proceedings between the Premier League and Manchester City Football Club remain ongoing.
What the FA said
The FA’s Communications department said: “The Independent Commission’s decision has significant implications for the integrity of the game. We are carefully considering the decision and its implications and will take action where appropriate.”
The FA also said the proceedings between the Premier League and Manchester City Football Club remain ongoing. It therefore did not intend to comment further “at this stage,” but said it would continue to monitor developments closely. Read the FA’s statement.

What the statement does—and does not—establish
The statement confirms the FA’s assessment of the decision’s significance and its intention to consider whether action is appropriate. It does not describe what the Independent Commission decided, explain its reasoning or evidence, or identify any breach or sanction. The FA’s phrase “significant implications” should not be taken on its own as proof of a particular finding or punishment.
