Neither chip has a conclusive benchmark winner in the published evidence. Both are built on a 4 nm process, but Samsung’s Exynos 1480 and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 use different GPU families, support different wireless standards, and are measured by sources that never tested them under the same conditions. The useful comparison is the documented feature set of each chip, followed by the phone that actually ships with it.

Exynos 1480 vs Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 specifications

The table below uses each vendor’s own product description. Where a vendor did not publish a value, the cell says so rather than filling it in.

Specification Samsung Exynos 1480 Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 5
Process 4 nm (Samsung product description) 4 nm (Qualcomm product page)
CPU Four high-performance cores plus four low-power cores (Samsung product description) Qualcomm Kryo CPU, up to 2.4 GHz; core configuration not stated on the product page
GPU Xclipse 530, described by Samsung as based on mobile AMD RDNA architecture Qualcomm Adreno GPU; graphics APIs listed as OpenGL ES 3.2, Vulkan 1.3, and OpenCL 3.0
Cellular 5G sub-6 GHz and mmWave (Samsung) 5G; Qualcomm’s page describes peak 5G download of up to 2.8 Gbps
Wi-Fi Wi-Fi 6E Wi-Fi 5
Bluetooth Bluetooth 5.3 Bluetooth 5.1

Two practical points follow from this table. The Exynos 1480 lists the newer Wi-Fi and Bluetooth generations, which matters only if your router and accessories support them. The GPU rows name different architectures, and neither vendor published a like-for-like graphics figure against the other chip, so the table cannot tell you which GPU renders games faster.

What the manufacturer percentages actually measure

Both companies publish headline gains, but each compares its chip with a different baseline. The figures cannot be subtracted from one another or ranked.

Samsung’s numbers describe its own generation-to-generation change, and Qualcomm’s describe its own. The 53% and 77% figures therefore do not measure the same thing, and neither one tells you how the Exynos 1480 compares with the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5. Samsung also states that real-world performance can vary with system configuration and usage conditions.

Benchmark evidence

Independent benchmark data for these chips is thin, and what exists was not collected under controlled, matched conditions. Treat any single score as a reading from one phone on one day.

Geekbench results for the Galaxy A55 5G

Geekbench’s listing for the Samsung Galaxy A55 5G identifies its processor as the Exynos 1480. The entries are user-submitted, so they reflect whatever firmware, memory configuration, and background activity each owner had at the time. They describe that phone, not the Exynos 1480 as a universal score.

NanoReview data for the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5

NanoReview lists benchmark data for the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, but it reports fewer than three Geekbench 6 samples. A sample set that small cannot establish a typical result, and a single outlier could move the apparent average substantially.

How to read benchmark numbers for these two chips

  1. Check the benchmark version. Scores from different Geekbench releases are not directly comparable.
  2. Identify the handset. Cooling design, memory, and power limits differ between phones using the same chip.
  3. Count the samples. Two or three results cannot show a typical score or a meaningful gap.
  4. Confirm that both chips were tested on the same phone model, firmware, and conditions before drawing a ranking.
  5. Note that a benchmark measures a short burst of performance. It does not show sustained gaming temperatures or battery drain over a day.

Gaming and the 90 FPS claim

Qualcomm advertises 90 FPS support as a first for the Snapdragon 4 series. That is a platform capability, not a guarantee that every game or phone will hold 90 FPS. Frame rate depends on the game’s settings, the phone’s thermal behavior, and the display’s refresh rate.

No published source compares the Xclipse 530 and the Adreno GPU in the same game on the same phone. Samsung’s RDNA-based description tells you about the GPU design, not about how it performs against Adreno in a particular title. If gaming is your main concern, look for reviews of the specific phone running the games you play.

Exynos 1480: Samsung Galaxy A55 5G

The Galaxy A55 5G is the concrete handset reference point for the Exynos 1480. Its Geekbench results give you real-world numbers for that device, but they do not describe every Exynos 1480 phone, and the regional model you can buy may differ.

Snapdragon 4 Gen 5: launch and expected devices

Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 on May 7, 2026. The company said commercial devices were expected in the second half of 2026 and named OPPO, realme, and REDMI as expected early device makers. The announcement alone does not confirm a retail model, a market, or current availability. Check each manufacturer’s listings for a specific phone before assuming a Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 device exists in your region.

How to decide between two phones

Because the chip alone does not settle performance, compare the complete phones using the following checklist.

  • Price and the exact regional model, since the same name can ship with different chips or memory in different markets.
  • Display resolution and refresh rate, which affect how games and scrolling feel.
  • Battery capacity and any independent battery test for that specific phone.
  • Cooling design and memory configuration, which shape sustained performance.
  • Software support length, including how many years of security and OS updates the manufacturer commits to.
  • Supported cellular bands for your carrier, especially for 5G sub-6 GHz and mmWave.
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth versions against the equipment you already own.

If two phones share a chip, the phone-level differences above will usually matter more than the chip’s documented features.
