Eight former Flipkart senior and C-suite executives have asked Walmart’s board to give eligible former employees a way to sell their vested stock options, according to a Bloomberg-syndicated report published October 8, 2026. They say they want liquidity while Flipkart’s IPO timing remains unclear. The reports do not say Walmart has accepted or rejected the request, or that any buyout has happened.
What the former executives asked Walmart to do
The group’s letter, which the report says Bloomberg saw, asks Walmart to provide a complete exit opportunity to all eligible former employees who hold vested options. The report says the Economic Times had covered the letter earlier. Neither account names the signatories or publishes the full letter. Bloomberg-syndicated report
The request is for an opportunity to sell vested options; it is not evidence that Walmart has agreed to purchase them. The reports do not specify the number of options involved, their exercise prices, the proposed valuation, or any terms for a transaction.
Why they say they want an exit
In the letter as quoted by the report, the former executives said they joined Flipkart when the company’s future value was uncertain, accepted the risks and potential benefits of equity compensation, and continued holding their interests after leaving. They said some former employees had held options for as long as 15 years. Economic Times report

“Many of us joined the company during its earlier, more uncertain years, when the future value of these options was far from certain. We accepted the risk and opportunity associated with equity compensation and continued to hold our interests long after leaving the organisation,” the former executives said in the letter. “We therefore request that Walmart gives a complete exit opportunity to all eligible former employees holding vested options.”
The former executives also said current Flipkart employees had been offered an opportunity to sell stock options in 2026. That is their account as reported; the articles do not independently establish the offer’s terms, eligibility criteria, or which employees could participate.

What is known about Flipkart’s IPO plans
Flipkart has been preparing for a possible public listing, but the report says plans to begin a process for banks to pitch for the IPO were later deferred without a clear timeline, citing people familiar with the matter. It also says Flipkart shifted its incorporation from Singapore to India in 2026. These reported steps do not amount to a published IPO timetable. Bloomberg-syndicated report

A buyout and an IPO are different possible routes
- Requested buyout: The former executives are asking Walmart to offer eligible former employees an exit for vested options. No agreement or terms have been reported.
- Possible IPO: A future listing is part of the companies’ stated roadmap, but the report gives no date for a filing or public debut.
The reports provide no basis to determine what an individual holder’s options might be worth or whether a particular person would qualify for either route.
What remains unanswered
- Whether Walmart’s board has responded to the letter or will offer a buyout.
- Who signed the letter and how many options the group holds.
- Any exercise prices, valuation, purchase terms, eligibility rules, or tax treatment.
- The details of the 2026 employee sale opportunity mentioned by the former executives.
- Whether or when Flipkart will file for or complete an IPO.
Flipkart’s ownership background
Bloomberg-syndicated coverage reports that Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal founded Flipkart in Bangalore in 2007. Walmart acquired a controlling stake in a deal reported at $16 billion in 2018. Sachin Bansal sold his entire stake and left in connection with the deal; Binny Bansal exited within months and had sold his remaining shares by 2023. The founders are not related, according to the report. Bloomberg-syndicated report
