Day two of EUC World Amplify 2026 focused on four practical challenges for EUC teams: keeping legacy applications available without rebuilding everything, making digital employee experience (DEX) telemetry useful rather than noisy, granting travelers temporary access with controls, and running LLM inference on private infrastructure. StorageReview’s October 2 event report describes these as session examples and recommendations—not independently tested results or guarantees that the approaches will suit every environment.

What the day-two sessions covered

The Wednesday, September 30 program in Milwaukee addressed concerns familiar to EUC architects, administrators, security teams and IT leaders working with virtual desktops, application delivery and automation. The official World of EUC event page lists “Passport to Protection: Entra Conditional Access for Global Travelers” among its highlights. The technical details below are attributed to StorageReview’s coverage of sessions; the event page confirms the event and that session title, but does not independently validate the reported implementations.

Session theme Reported approach What the report does not establish
Legacy application delivery Retask session hosts to another broker while retaining images, runtimes and user configurations. That this cutover method works for every application stack or can be completed within a fixed time.
DEX monitoring Use experience-oriented telemetry to investigate user-impacting causes and connect findings to service workflows. A measured reduction in alerts, a vendor ranking or universally reliable automated remediation.
Traveler access Use approved, expiring travel entitlements alongside Conditional Access and device signals. A tenant-ready policy recipe or a guarantee that a particular control combination is sufficient.
Private LLM inference Run local document and runbook workflows, sizing a model against host memory capacity. A validated hardware configuration, benchmark, privacy certification or cost comparison.

Keeping a legacy application alive without a wholesale rebuild

What the Parallels case study reported

In “The App That Can’t Die: Serving 2,000+ Concurrent Users on End-of-Life Everything,” the Parallels Premier session described Skyward K-12 software delivered to more than 2,000 concurrent users across hundreds of school districts in a multi-tenant Parallels RAS environment, according to StorageReview. The figures describe that reported deployment, not an industry-wide measure.

The report says the application relied on an unsupported backend that was isolated from outside network exposure. To move session hosts to a modern broker, the team changed the agent service while keeping golden images, application runtimes and local user configurations in place. That is a case-specific continuity strategy, not evidence that an unsupported stack is safe or that any broker switch will be similarly simple. Isolation reduces exposure but does not remove the need to assess the backend’s remaining risks and dependencies.

What to validate before a broker cutover

The session report also identified file transmission and HTML5 redirection as bottlenecks, and described using dedicated filesystem drivers. Those details matter because preserving an image does not necessarily preserve every user workflow: peripheral access, file movement and redirection can depend on broker-specific components.

  • Inventory application, backend, runtime and user-configuration dependencies, including what must remain isolated.
  • Check compatibility for the target broker, agent, file transfer, peripherals and redirection paths.
  • Plan a representative pilot, cutover window, rollback route and support coverage. The report does not establish a generally applicable migration duration.

Using DEX telemetry without creating alert fatigue

Start with employee impact, not another dashboard

The DEX panel, with Vivek KR of Citrix, John Yoakum of Recast Software, Doug Arcidino of Omnissa and Jack Smith of Liquidware, moderated by Sean Massey, contrasted conventional infrastructure indicators—such as hypervisor CPU, memory and ping—with telemetry that can help explain what a user actually experiences. StorageReview reports examples including resource use by endpoint security agents, ISP transit problems and oversized cloud instances.

The practical distinction is between detecting that something looks abnormal and identifying a cause that helps resolve a user’s problem. A signal is more actionable when teams can relate it to affected users, devices or sessions and follow it into investigation and remediation. The report describes service-management integration as a panel theme; it provides no measured alert-precision results or controlled comparison of DEX products.

Put guardrails around automation

Automated detection and remediation can shorten a response, but an incorrect action can interrupt work or conceal the underlying issue. The panel discussion, as reported, cautioned that automation needs guardrails and verification. Teams should define which findings can trigger automatic action, which require human review, and how they will confirm the action fixed the user-impacting problem before expanding automation.

Time-bound Entra access for business travel

The reported approval-and-expiration pattern

Daniel Keer of Digitally Accurate presented “Passport to Protection.” StorageReview describes a workflow in which a traveler requests access through an Entra ID Entitlement Management Access Package, a manager approves it, and the entitlement expires after the travel window. Conditional Access policies and Intune device-compliance signals provide additional controls; the report also describes phishing-resistant MFA as part of the approach.

The operational idea is to grant a defined entitlement for an approved period rather than leave a manual exception or bypass in place indefinitely. The session report also recommends blocking legacy authentication, restricting unmanaged or unknown client platforms, reviewing Device Code Flow, testing policies in Report-Only mode and using the What If tool before enforcement. These are reported recommendations, not a complete policy configuration. Entra behavior and tenant requirements can change, so validate the current controls and Microsoft guidance in the tenant before applying them.

Plan for policy failures and recovery

Travel rules can block legitimate work if identity, location or device signals do not match the expected scenario. Test representative sign-in conditions and approval paths before enforcement, and preserve emergency break-glass accounts as the session recommended. StorageReview also mentioned a May 2027 milestone related to legacy custom controls; because policy roadmaps can change, check Microsoft’s current migration guidance rather than treating that date as settled.

Running LLM inference on private infrastructure

Size for the actual workload

Stephen Wagner and Jaymes Davis discussed local inference for runbooks and technical documentation using Ollama with Open WebUI, according to StorageReview. The report says they suggested llmfit to compare host RAM and VRAM with model parameters before loading a model. It does not name a model, machine, benchmark or recommended hardware configuration, so it cannot support a specific workstation or GPU prescription.

Begin with the task: which documents may be used, who needs access, how many people will use the system concurrently, and what response time is acceptable? Then check model requirements against available memory and test representative prompts and documents. RAM and VRAM are only part of capacity planning; concurrency, latency, model quality and the operational burden of maintaining the service also matter. A GPU workstation for local AI inference is a hardware category to evaluate, not a configuration endorsed by the session.

Private hosting does not settle governance

The speakers cited privacy, governance and cloud inference costs as motivations for local inference. Hosting a model on private infrastructure changes where inference runs, but by itself it does not establish that documents are protected, access is appropriately controlled, outputs are accurate, or regulatory obligations are met. Set access, retention, logging and review rules for the deployment, and evaluate output quality against the intended work. The report provides no privacy certification, security assessment, accuracy results or cost comparison.

Broker orchestration across mixed environments

Karen Gondoly’s Leostream session addressed brokering and orchestration across physical workstations, virtualization platforms and public cloud instances, as described by StorageReview. The report says the presented agent used outbound-only connectivity through a reverse SSH tunnel. That architecture may be relevant where inbound connectivity is constrained, but confirm the current design, security implications and supported targets with the vendor before using it as an implementation assumption.

StorageReview characterized Leostream Cloud as a preview that had not yet been publicly announced at the time of the session. That status is time-sensitive; the report should not be read as a statement of current product availability.

How to apply the session takeaways

These sessions point to a common operational discipline: preserve what can safely be preserved, connect telemetry to a response process, make access temporary and approved, and size private inference against a real workload. None removes the need to test dependencies, validate controls or measure results in the environment where the change will run.
