Ethereum’s Glamsterdam upgrade was scheduled to activate on the Sepolia testnet on October 6, 2026, at 13:53:36 UTC—epoch 353,024, slot 11,296,768. The scheduled time has passed, but the available official announcements establish the schedule, not whether the network activated cleanly or how it performed afterward. The announcement covers Sepolia only; it does not schedule a mainnet upgrade.
When was Glamsterdam scheduled to launch on Sepolia?
The Ethereum Foundation’s Glamsterdam Testnet Announcement, published September 28, 2026, set Sepolia activation for October 6, 2026, at 13:53:36 UTC. It specified epoch 353,024 and slot 11,296,768. EIP-7773 gives the corresponding Unix timestamp as 1791294816.
Because that scheduled date has passed, it is important to distinguish the announced activation time from a verified post-activation status: the cited sources do not document whether Sepolia remained stable after the fork, or report measured performance results such as higher throughput or lower transaction costs.
What does Glamsterdam change?
Glamsterdam combines Amsterdam changes on Ethereum’s execution layer with Gloas changes on its consensus layer. Its headline protocol features are enshrined proposer-builder separation (ePBS) and block-level access lists (BALs). Scaling and sustainability are design goals, not demonstrated outcomes of this scheduled testnet launch.

The scope also includes gas accounting and repricing, plus execution and consensus changes collected under EIP-7773. Its listed proposals include EIP-7732 for ePBS; EIP-7928 for block-level access lists; EIP-2780 for resource-based intrinsic transaction gas; EIP-7708 for emitting a log on ETH transfers; EIP-7778 for block gas accounting without refunds; EIP-7843 for the SLOTNUM opcode; EIP-7954 for a higher maximum contract size; EIP-7976 for calldata floor cost; EIP-7981 for access-list cost; and EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 for state-creation and state-access gas changes. That is a selection, not a complete feature list; consult the live meta EIP for the current scope.
Do Sepolia node operators need to update?
Yes. Operators running Sepolia need execution-layer and consensus-layer clients with explicit support for the Sepolia fork. Validators should update their beacon node and validator client, then follow their client teams’ current release notes for proposer settings and any builder or validator tooling dependencies. The Foundation’s announcement also notes that client-specific guidance differs for gas-limit configuration.

Use the release instructions for your actual client combination rather than assuming one generic setting applies to every operator. The announcement lists compatible releases and links to client guidance.
What should application developers test?
Developers should review the included EIPs and test affected applications and tools on Sepolia. Pay particular attention to assumptions about gas accounting and repricing, gas estimation, logs, opcodes, client interfaces, and access lists.

State-creation and state-access gas changes
The Ethereum Foundation’s August 24, 2026 repricing impact report says EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 change the costs of creating and accessing state. In its historical replay, the Foundation identified a small set of contracts that relied on affected assumptions; it reports that most flagged issues were addressed by increasing gas limits and that the large majority of contracts were unaffected. This is the Foundation’s replay result, not a guarantee for every contract or application.
Gas assumptions and tooling
Earlier guidance for the Platåberget testnet warned that tools using a hard-capped maximum gas limit could break, and called out assumptions that every transfer costs 21,000 gas or that gas estimation has only one dimension. Those warnings are useful prompts for code review, but they came from earlier testing. Check current EIP and client guidance to determine whether a warning applies to your implementation.

Does the Sepolia launch mean Glamsterdam is coming to mainnet?
No mainnet activation time was set in the Foundation announcement or in the EIP activation table. The announcement states: “This announcement covers Sepolia; it does not schedule a mainnet upgrade.” Hoodi also had no activation time in those sources.

Ethereum.org’s Glamsterdam roadmap page, last updated August 6, 2026, described Q4 2026 as the expected mainnet period, but did not confirm a date. That was a forecast, not a scheduled activation. A Sepolia testnet milestone and a roadmap expectation should not be treated as confirmation of a mainnet fork.

Who needs to act—and who does not?
- Sepolia node operators: Run compatible execution- and consensus-layer clients.
- Sepolia validators: Update the beacon node and validator client, and check client-specific proposer, builder, and gas-limit instructions.
- Application and tooling developers: Review the included proposals and test compatibility on Sepolia, especially where code depends on gas schedules or transaction behavior.
- Regular Ethereum users and ETH holders: This Sepolia announcement does not require a user action and does not announce mainnet activation.
