A paid October 1, 2026, report attributes a 12-month Ethereum target of $3,028 to Citi, but the original Citi research note was not located, so the target and its rationale cannot be independently confirmed here. The same report describes AlphaPepe as still pre-listing and repeats promotional claims about funds raised and holders; it does not establish that ALPE made a first exchange debut. These are different claims about different kinds of assets—not evidence that either offers a better or assured return.
What is Citi’s reported Ethereum price target?
StreetInsider/MarketMediaWire’s paid press-release coverage dated October 1, 2026, says Citi raised its 12-month ETH target to $3,028 from $2,240. The original Citi note was not located, so these figures should be described as a target attributed to Citi by that coverage, not as a forecast independently verified from the bank.
The paid article attributes the revision to stronger crypto activity, a better macroeconomic backdrop, and renewed ETF inflows. Because the original note was unavailable, those explanations—and the assumptions behind the target—cannot be independently confirmed or used to reconstruct Citi’s model.
What a 12-month target does—and does not—mean
A price target is an estimate tied to assumptions and a time horizon. It is not a promise that ETH will reach that price, a measure of how likely it is to do so, or a guarantee of an investor’s return. The reported coverage does not provide enough detail to assess Citi’s inputs, scenario range, or sensitivity to changing conditions.

What does the report say about AlphaPepe?
The same October 1 paid coverage reports that AlphaPepe had raised more than $2.86 million and had more than 12,200 holders before its first public exchange listing. Those are promotional figures repeated in the release, not independently audited totals. The article itself still describes ALPE as pre-listing; it does not establish that an exchange debut subsequently took place.
Partnership announcements are not proof of trading
An AlphaPepe release distributed by GlobeNewswire on July 9, 2026, said the project had announced partnerships with Azbit, BiFinance, and Biconomy, while also saying that a final public launch date had not been announced. Those issuer-provided statements do not demonstrate that ALPE listed or traded on any of those venues. The two cited releases leave its actual trading status unresolved.

To establish a completed debut, look for an official exchange listing page that identifies the ALPE trading pair and contract address, together with a dated exchange announcement. A project statement or planned partnership alone is not equivalent to a live market.

Does buying an Ether investment product mean holding ETH?
No. SEC-filed annual reports illustrate why the investment vehicle and the underlying asset should be distinguished. An Ether trust described in a 2025 reporting-period annual report seeks to provide shareholder exposure to Ether’s value, less expenses and liabilities, and follows a passive strategy rather than trying to time purchases or sales. The iShares Ethereum Trust ETF’s 2025 reporting-period filing says its shares are not a direct investment in Ether and discusses market, custody, platform-pricing, and volatility risks.
Those filings provide general context about trust exposure; they do not verify Citi’s reported target. A trust share and Ether itself are different exposures, with product-level expenses and risks in addition to the risks of the underlying asset.

How to read these claims before making a decision
- Separate forecast from fact: the ETH number is a target reported by paid secondary coverage, not a guaranteed price or a verified account of Citi’s model.
- Separate project claims from market evidence: AlphaPepe’s reported raise, holder count, and partnership announcements do not prove a completed exchange listing or tradable liquidity.
- Check the relevant market evidence: for a claimed debut, confirm the official venue page, pair, contract address, and dated exchange announcement rather than relying only on a project release.
- Distinguish the asset from the wrapper: holding ETH and owning shares in an Ether trust are not identical exposures.
On the evidence in the October 1 coverage and July issuer release, the accurate conclusion is limited: a $3,028 12-month ETH target is attributed to Citi by paid secondary coverage, while AlphaPepe’s claimed fundraising and holder figures remain promotional and its first exchange debut is unverified.
