The Espressotoria System Piccolo is a compact automatic capsule machine, but it is a practical fit only if you are happy to use genuine Espressotoria System capsules. The manufacturer says Nespresso-compatible and other capsule formats do not work in it. Its advertised features are straightforward; public evidence does not establish a comparative taste score or failure rate.
What the Piccolo offers
Espressotoria describes the Piccolo as an automatic capsule machine with programmable espresso and ristretto pours. Its product page lists a removable water tank and drip tray, automatic ejection of used capsules into an internal container, an energy-saver mode, a 30-second heat-up from standby and 0.5 W energy-saver consumption. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test measurements. The stated pump pressure is 19 bar; that figure alone does not establish the quality of the coffee in the cup. Which capsules work, and where to buy them
For buying purposes, treat the Piccolo as a closed capsule system. Espressotoria’s FAQ says only genuine Espressotoria System capsules work in the machine and warns that other capsules may damage it. The company also says Espressotoria capsules and Nespresso-compatible capsules are not interchangeable. Do not buy generic or Nespresso-compatible capsules expecting them to work. The manufacturer names Woolworths, Coles and independent Australian supermarkets as places to find its capsules. In New Zealand, it names Countdown and Foodstuffs. Those are stated retail channels, not a guarantee that a particular store has stock today; check locally before choosing the machine. Its FAQ also says the range does not include tea, hot chocolate or chai capsules. Espressotoria FAQ

The removable drip tray is intended to make room for different cup sizes. The reviewed specifications establish espresso and ristretto pours, but do not establish a built-in milk frother. If you want milk drinks, plan on a separate frother rather than assuming one is included. Espressotoria product page CHOICE listing

What is known about performance and reliability
CHOICE lists the Piccolo and indicates it has test results, but its expert rating and detailed findings—including taste, ease of use, milk-frothing, temperature consistency and heat-up results—were member-only on the page reviewed. The publicly visible material therefore does not support a comparative performance verdict. CHOICE listing

- A reasonable fit: someone who wants a compact automatic machine, is comfortable buying genuine Espressotoria System capsules and can confirm capsule availability locally.
- A poor fit: someone who wants to use Nespresso-compatible or other-brand capsules, or needs tea, hot chocolate or chai pods from this system.
- Compare carefully: if taste performance, long-term reliability or milk-drink capability is central to your choice, the publicly available evidence cited here does not settle those questions.
