The Epson SureColor P700 is a capable 13-inch-class photo printer for photographers who want large prints, fine-art media support and a desktop workflow. Its strongest case is flexible paper handling paired with a ten-cartridge pigment ink system; its main trade-offs are the 13-inch width ceiling and the ongoing cost of Epson-branded ink. It is a better fit for prints up to 13 inches wide than for anyone who regularly needs 17-inch output.
What the Epson SureColor P700 offers
The P700 is a desktop photo printer built for home studios and small print workspaces. Epson lists support for media up to 13 inches wide, borderless printing, sheet and roll workflows, and paper up to 1.5 mm thick. It accepts third-party media as well as Epson paper, though paper-specific profiles and settings still matter. See Epson’s product page and P700 specification sheet for the manufacturer’s specifications.
For a serious photo printer, 13 inches is a meaningful but specific limit: it accommodates common large-format photo and art prints, but not wider prints. Epson’s P900 reaches 17 inches, which matters if your preferred print sizes exceed the P700’s maximum width.

Epson describes the P700’s UltraChrome PRO10 pigment system as delivering a wide color gamut and advanced black-and-white printing; those are manufacturer claims. In its September 22, 2026 photo-printer guide, Digital Camera World reported strong color and black-and-white output on matte photo paper and fine-art media. The same reviewer noted bronzing on glossy output, so results may depend on the surface rather than being equally compelling on every paper type. These are that publication’s observations, not controlled measurements by this article. Digital Camera World’s guide discusses the P700 in context.
#1 Best Overall
- Outstanding image quality and color — all-new UltraChrome PRO10 Ink with Violet produces a wide color gamut for vibrant and rich colors
- No Photo and Matte Black ink switching — dedicated nozzles for both black ink types — no switching needed
- New 10-channel MicroPiezo AMC printhead — consistently delivers prints with outstanding speed, consistency and accuracy
- Easy printing from smart devices — print color-managed files directly from your iOS device (1) using an easy-to-use interface
- New Carbon Black Driver Technology — all-new Carbon Black Driver mode dramatically increases Dmax for best-in-class black density on glossy papers
Choose paper by the look and finish you want, then check that the printer driver or your printing workflow has an appropriate profile and media setting for it. Epson supports third-party media, but that support does not establish that every paper has a ready-made profile. For matte and fine-art work, the independent review is encouraging; if glossy output is central to your work, consider the reported bronzing caveat and evaluate the intended paper before committing.
Ink system and ownership costs
The P700 uses ten Epson UltraChrome PRO10 pigment cartridges, including violet. Epson’s specification sheet says an initial set of ten cartridges is supplied. The US product page states that the printer is designed for Epson cartridges only, not third-party cartridges or ink, making branded replacement supplies part of the ownership equation. Epson’s P700 page provides the cartridge restriction.

Digital Camera World described the initial setup ink as limited and replacement cartridges as costly, but it did not provide a consistent measured cost per print. Actual consumption will vary with image coverage, print size, cleaning and usage. There is not enough established evidence here to give a reliable cost-per-print figure, so treat ink expense as a real budgeting consideration rather than relying on a single universal estimate.

Media handling, connections and workflow
The P700 supports both roll and sheet media, borderless printing, and media up to 1.5 mm thick, giving it flexibility for photographers who move between ordinary photo paper and thicker art stock. RTINGS also notes its support for varied sizes, roll media and media up to 1.5 mm thick; the review’s displayed update date is January 5, 2026. RTINGS’ P700 review provides that independent feature context.

Source for all figures in the table: Epson’s US April 2026 P-Series line guide. The P900 costs more in that guide but doubles the maximum width and cartridge capacity. Decide based on the sizes you actually print and your expected supply use: if 13 inches covers your work, the P700 avoids paying for width you may not need; if you often print wider, the P900 is the relevant step up.

- Industry-leading print permanence — expected to create prints that have WIR display permanence ratings of up to 200 years for color and 400 years for black-and-white (2).

Who should buy the P700?
- Consider it if you want a home or small-studio photo printer for prints up to 13 inches wide, including matte and fine-art work, and value roll and sheet media options.
- Budget carefully if you print frequently: the ten-cartridge system requires Epson-branded ink, while no consistent cost-per-print figure is established here.
- Look at the P900 instead if 17-inch-wide output is a recurring requirement.
- Compare other printers on workflow if you are still choosing a professional photo printer. RTINGS identifies the Canon PIXMA PRO-200 as another option with broad media compatibility and a different dedicated-ink system; compare current print width, ink system, media handling and preferred surfaces before making a head-to-head choice. RTINGS’ comparison framing is a starting point, not a substitute for checking current specifications.
