Master Bond identifies EP41S-6 as a two-part epoxy system that meets UL 1203. That is a manufacturer claim about the material—not proof that an enclosure or finished electrical assembly is UL 1203 certified. For hazardous-location use, verify the complete equipment’s certification, markings, and suitability for the specific location.
What UL 1203 covers
UL 1203 is titled “ExplosionProof and Dust-IgnitionProof Electrical Equipment for Use in Hazardous (Classified) Locations.” UL Standards & Engagement lists it as active, Edition 6. The listing gives July 10, 2023, as the publication date and May 30, 2024, as the latest revision date. That revision adds a marking for component enclosures tested for explosion pressure and propagation effects of short-circuit testing with circuit breakers. See the UL 1203 standard listing.
The standard addresses specified electrical equipment applications, including Class I, Division 1, Groups A through D; Class II, Division 1, Groups E through G; and stated Class I Zone 1 and dust Zone 20, 21, and 22 uses. Actual suitability depends on the standard’s requirements and the equipment’s markings.

Which epoxy is identified as meeting UL 1203?
Master Bond EP41S-6
Master Bond describes EP41S-6 as a two-component epoxy system that meets UL 1203 and lists bonding, sealing, coating, potting, casting, encapsulation, and gap filling among its applications. The manufacturer’s description makes it a product to evaluate when selecting an epoxy for electrical equipment; it does not establish that every use or finished assembly containing the epoxy is certified. View Master Bond’s EP41S-6 product information.
Master Bond reports these typical properties: viscosity of 30,000–60,000 cps, hardness of 85–95 Shore D, dielectric strength of 440 volts per mil, and a service temperature range of -80°F to +500°F. These are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independent test results established here.

- Dries clear: Our Gorilla Tough epoxy resin dries clear for a clean finish and incredibly durable hold; perfect for household and automotive repairs
- 5 minute epoxy: This epoxy resin kit in just one applicator has a 5 minute set time, plenty for repositioning and adjusting
- Gap filling: Gorilla resin epoxy also acts as a gap filler, filling voids and bonding uneven or vertical surfaces
- Water resistant: Our clear epoxy resin withstands moderate exposure to water for extra durability
- Easy-to-use syringe: Gorilla Epoxy has separate barrels of epoxy resin and hardener to keep the epoxy from hardening; the syringes dispense evenly and include a cap for multiple uses
Mixing and cure schedule
The product information gives a 100:25 mix ratio by weight and recommends curing overnight at 75°F, followed by 6–8 hours at 150–250°F. Confirm the latest technical and safety data sheets and assess the cure schedule against your actual design, materials, and production process before specifying it.
What the chemical-vapor test does—and does not—show
Master Bond reports exposing EP41S-6 samples to chemical vapors for 168 hours, then checking for physical changes and testing crushing force. It says the crushing force after exposure was at least 85% of the original value. This is the manufacturer’s reported test method and result; the sources available do not independently reproduce or validate the testing. Read Master Bond’s test description.

How to assess an epoxy for a hazardous-location assembly
- Identify the location classification. Establish the applicable class, division or zone, and group for the intended installation.
- Check the complete equipment. Confirm that the finished product—not just a material within it—has certification and markings appropriate to the intended location. UL describes Product iQ as a tool for checking certification information; consult the certification record and applicable markings. See UL’s guidance on certification records and Product iQ.
- Review the epoxy’s documented role. Check the manufacturer’s application information, typical properties, mix ratio, and cure requirements against the component design and manufacturing process.
- Confirm the actual design and process. Have the responsible design or compliance team determine whether the compound, construction, and production controls are acceptable for the equipment’s certification and intended use.
There is not enough information here to conclude that EP41S-6 is the only epoxy suitable for UL 1203 equipment, or that it is suitable for every hazardous-location design. Selection must be tied to the intended classification and the certified equipment configuration.
Quick Recap
Best Value
- REPAIR RIGID METAL PARTS, NOT JUST SMALL BONDS:** Vicpricme metal repair epoxy is designed for prepared aluminum, steel, stainless steel and cast iron. Repair rigid brackets, housings, tools, metal fixtures and other non-flexing parts. A practical cold-weld alternative for localized repairs when replacing a part is unnecessary. For best results, confirm material compatibility and prepare the surface before application.
- 30-MINUTE WORKING TIME, 24-HOUR FULL CURE:** The 1:1 two-part epoxy gives you time to mix, fill gaps, build up material, align parts and secure the repair. Allow up to 30 minutes of working time and a full 24 hours to cure under the recommended conditions before loading, drilling, sanding or painting. Working and curing times vary with temperature, mix quantity and application conditions.
- STRONG, WATERPROOF & OIL-RESISTANT AFTER FULL CURE:** Cures into a hard, steel-like repair with a stated bond strength of up to 4,680 PSI. The cured epoxy is waterproof and resistant to oil and compatible chemicals, with a stated service-temperature range of -85°F to 356°F. Suitable for properly prepared rigid components in workshops, garages and outdoor equipment repairs. Actual performance depends on surface preparation, joint design, cure conditions and the type of load.
- CONTROLLED 1:1 MIXING FOR MORE PRECISE REPAIRS:** The pre-filled dual syringe helps dispense Parts A and B in the intended 1:1 ratio. Clean and degrease the surface, remove loose rust or coatings, and roughen the bonding area. Dispense and mix both components thoroughly until uniform, apply to the prepared surfaces, align the parts and clamp securely. Use a compatible reinforcement patch, mesh or bracket where appropriate for rigid repairs. Follow the product instructions and allow a full 24-hour cure before use.
- KNOW THE LIMITS BEFORE YOU REPAIR:** For rigid, non-flexing repairs only. Not recommended for galvanized or zinc-plated parts or surfaces, PE, PP, PTFE, silicone, rubber-like or flexible materials, moving joints, torsion-loaded parts, fuel or brake lines, pressurized plumbing, pressure-critical systems, exhaust manifolds or internal engine cracks. Do not use as a substitute for a safety-critical component or a repair requiring certified pressure containment. Test compatibility and adhesion on the intended substrate before use.
