Only LiteLLM Enterprise is a clearly documented match for all three controls in the official materials reviewed. Cloudflare, Kong, Azure API Management, and Portkey/PRISMA AIRS document relevant capabilities, but the available pages do not establish the complete SSO, administrative RBAC, and audit-log combination for each. Apigee and AWS are adjacent options, not verified matches. Treat this as a shortlist to validate against your exact product tier and deployment—not a ranking of nine confirmed gateways.

What counts as SSO, RBAC, and an audit log?

These controls answer different questions, and a gateway can provide one without proving the others:

  • SSO: How human operators sign in to the management interface, typically through an identity provider. Confirm which users and interfaces it covers; API-token authentication is not human SSO.
  • Administrative RBAC: What signed-in users can view or change, and at what scope—such as organization, team, gateway, key, or policy.
  • Audit logging: A record of activity. Management-change history, API-key changes, and runtime request telemetry are distinct log types; request logs alone do not prove that administrative actions are audited.

For AI traffic, also ask whether prompt and response bodies are recorded, how long logs are retained, where they can be exported, and whether tenant or account boundaries limit access. A logging control that stores sensitive payloads may create a different risk from metadata-only observability.

How the documented options compare

“Not established” means the cited official pages do not verify that part of the exact control set; it does not mean the product lacks the feature. Confirm coverage for the edition, control plane, and deployment you intend to use.

Options with documented AI-gateway controls

LiteLLM Enterprise: clearest documented match

LiteLLM’s Enterprise documentation describes SSO and SCIM, OIDC/JWT, organization and team roles, and audit logs covering admin actions and key-level changes. It is the strongest fit in the materials reviewed when the requirement is specifically to document all three controls. The documentation says SSO is free for up to five users and an enterprise license is required beyond that; treat this as current packaging information to verify with the vendor, not a permanent price guarantee. It also describes log export to GCS or Azure Blob and external log routing. LiteLLM’s Enterprise product page describes self-hosted and air-gapped deployment; that is a deployment claim, not an independent security assessment.

Cloudflare AI Gateway: useful telemetry, but check account boundaries

Cloudflare’s audit-log documentation says account audit logs cover gateway creation, deletion, and updates, are enabled by default, and are available on all plan types. Its request logging documentation lists prompts, responses, provider, timestamp, token use, cost, and duration as possible log details, and says payload collection can be suppressed while metadata logging remains.

Retention and pricing depend on when the customer created its first gateway: customers whose first gateway was created on or after September 24, 2026 use Workers Logs pricing and retention; earlier customers use Legacy Logs. For authentication, Cloudflare says each request requires a valid API token in its Authenticated Gateway documentation. The documented token permissions are account-scoped, not restricted to one gateway. Cloudflare recommends separate accounts or a Worker-side binding when gateway or tenant isolation is required. Check the account’s administrative SSO and RBAC setup separately from this request-authentication mechanism.

Kong AI Gateway: strong traffic-audit detail to assess alongside identity

Kong’s AI audit-log reference describes logging request and response payloads, token use, model, latency, and cost, with options to route logs to external systems. Its AI Gateway documentation describes Konnect management, audit-log and OpenTelemetry observability, and data-plane nodes that can run in a customer environment and connect to Konnect. The pages reviewed do not establish the full SSO and administrative-RBAC story for every edition or deployment, so validate the precise control plane and data plane you plan to operate.

Azure API Management AI Gateway: distinguish backend access from gateway administration

Microsoft’s AI Gateway tier security documentation identifies the tier as preview and describes managed identity for supported backends, including Azure RBAC assignment at an individual Foundry or Azure OpenAI resource scope. That proves a way to govern access to certain backend resources; it does not by itself prove SSO and RBAC for every gateway-administration workflow.

The broader AI gateway capabilities page describes model quotas and rate limits, agent and MCP tool governance, and telemetry through Foundry or Application Insights; the Foundry integration is also identified as preview. Check service-tier and geographic availability, and confirm preview status at procurement time.

Portkey / PRISMA AIRS AI Gateway: validate identity scope and current product details

The organization-wide audit logs page, branded “PRISMA AIRS AI Gateway,” describes trails for prompts, routing changes, and guardrail updates, user attribution, role-based control over who can view audit logs, and private-cloud deployment. These are vendor claims rather than independent validation. The page does not establish SSO across gateway administration; confirm the product name, edition, packaging, and audit scope with the vendor.

Apigee

Google Cloud’s Apigee audit logging documentation covers audit logs for administrative and access activity, with categories associated with IAM permission types. It concerns Apigee API management generally, so it is useful evidence for an adjacent platform but does not verify that a particular AI gateway configuration satisfies SSO, RBAC, and audit logging together.

AWS

AWS’s enterprise-ready generative-AI platform guidance discusses audit tracking with CloudTrail and CloudWatch in enterprise architectures. It does not identify one specific gateway product and configuration that has been verified against all three controls. Evaluate the actual services and design rather than treating “AWS” as a single gateway entry.

How to validate a gateway before choosing it

Ask vendors to answer these questions for the exact edition and deployment under consideration. Record the answer and its source; a product-page checkbox may not describe the controls available in your tenant.

  1. Who uses SSO? Identify supported identity providers and protocols, whether SSO covers operators and administrators, and whether service accounts or API clients use separate authentication.
  2. What can each role do? Request the role definitions and scopes. Check whether permissions can be limited by organization, team, gateway, key, logs, or policy—not only whether the product advertises “RBAC.”
  3. Which events are audited? Ask whether the trail records configuration changes, key lifecycle events, access and role changes, and runtime calls. Confirm who is attributed to each event and whether records are tamper-resistant or exportable if that matters to your controls.
  4. What is recorded about AI traffic? Establish whether prompts and responses are stored, whether metadata-only logging is possible, what redaction controls exist, and who can read the resulting logs.
  5. Where do logs go, and for how long? Get the retention period, export destinations, region or data-residency constraints, and any plan-dependent limits in writing.
  6. What isolates tenants? Verify permission scope at the account, organization, project, or gateway level. If credentials or logs span tenants, determine what architecture prevents unintended access.
  7. What is generally available? Confirm preview or generally available status, supported geography and service tier, and whether the documented feature applies to your chosen control-plane and data-plane deployment.

For an internal comparison, label each control verified, partially documented, or not established, and attach the official documentation for the exact edition. Keep administrative audit trails separate from AI request telemetry so that a rich prompt log is not mistaken for proof of configuration accountability.
