There is no verified Steam Deck crash fix for End of Abyss in the sources available as of October 3, 2026. The official PC listing found is for Windows on the Epic Games Store, and it does not document SteamOS support or a Steam Deck compatibility rating. That means a generic Proton tweak cannot responsibly be presented as a confirmed solution.
Why a Steam Deck fix is not confirmed
The Epic Games Store lists End of Abyss as a Windows PC game. Its minimum operating system is Windows 10, its recommended operating system is Windows 11, and its listing specifies DirectX 12 and 5.29 GB of SSD storage. Those are Windows requirements, not SteamOS requirements. The listing also says an Epic ID login is required; that detail alone does not establish how the Epic launcher behaves on Steam Deck.
The official listing does not provide a Steam Deck support status, and the evidence available does not establish a Steam release or a Steam Deck compatibility rating. Compatibility and crash behavior on SteamOS therefore remain unverified. Xbox Wire’s September 30, 2026 announcement covered the Xbox Series X|S launch, not Deck support or technical troubleshooting.
Check whether the reported update matches your freeze
MP1st reported on October 3, 2026 that an October 2 update fixed a possible freeze when Cel is revived with the Defibrillator mod while still taking damage. The same report mentions an energy-node door progression issue and map fixes. It does not identify any of these changes as Steam Deck or Proton fixes.

If your problem is specifically that Defibrillator-mod freeze, check that the game has received the reported update and consult the publisher’s current patch notes or support information. The report does not establish that the update fixes crashes in general, launch failures, or other freezes.
Gather the details needed to diagnose a Deck crash
Before changing settings, pin down the game’s launch path and the exact failure. A launch crash, a crash after playing for a while, a freeze, and a progression-blocking bug may have different causes.

- Where you own and launch the game: identify the store or launcher. Do not assume a Steam installation from the game’s title.
- What happens: note when the crash or freeze occurs and copy any error text exactly.
- Your setup: record the SteamOS version, launcher, and compatibility layer in use, if applicable.
- Update status: check whether the reported October 2 game update is installed.
The October 2–3 discussion in the Steam Deck community contains early user impressions about settings and variable performance, but it is anecdotal: it does not establish a dependable crash remedy or a stable performance result.

There is not enough game-specific evidence to recommend switching Proton versions, adding launch arguments, lowering graphics settings, or buying hardware as a fix. Those changes may be suggested elsewhere as general troubleshooting, but they are not established remedies for End of Abyss on Steam Deck.

If the game is crashing on a Windows PC instead, treat that as a separate issue: check the game’s current official support instructions and patch notes for Windows troubleshooting. A Windows requirements listing does not tell you how to resolve a SteamOS compatibility problem.
