EmuDeck 2.7 adds AutoMap, which can assign controllers automatically in Dolphin, Cemu and Ryujinx for up to four players. EmuDeck’s announcement names Steam Controller, 8BitDo, Xbox and DualSense controllers among the supported external hardware. The feature is listed for SteamOS/Linux, not Windows. The public 2.7.1 release appeared on September 29, 2026 without attached release notes; the detailed 2.7.0 changelog was published separately for early access on September 14.
How do I get four controllers working in EmuDeck?
AutoMap is intended for emulators that do not detect controllers automatically. It applies its assignments when a supported emulator starts, rather than during EmuDeck installation. The release analysis identifies three per-emulator settings: autoMapDolphin, autoMapCemu and autoMapSwitch (Ryujinx). The available material does not specify a menu path for changing these settings, so avoid relying on an assumed UI location.
- On SteamOS/Linux, connect the controllers you want to use and confirm the system recognizes them.
- Enable AutoMap for the emulator you plan to launch: Dolphin, Cemu or Ryujinx. The corresponding setting names are
autoMapDolphin,autoMapCemuandautoMapSwitch. - Start that emulator. AutoMap then enumerates controller pads and updates the emulator’s device assignments; its hard-coded maximum is four players.
- Check player order in the game. When Steam Input is not involved, the implementation sorts known built-in handheld controllers after external controllers, which can let an external pad become player one.
Dolphin receives additional handling: AutoMap rewrites its SIDevice ports and Wiimote sources to match the detected pad count. The assignment still depends on the emulator and controllers being recognized correctly; the release material gives no setup-success rate or reliability benchmark.
Know the control-setting trade-off
With AutoMap enabled, launching an affected emulator displays this warning: “AutoMap is enabled. You won’t be able to change controller settings in this emulator.” This is a notable limitation if you need to make per-controller changes inside the emulator. The release analysis also says existing Steam Deck installations are left unchanged if the relevant setting has never been written.

Does EmuDeck AutoMap work with 8BitDo, Xbox, or DualSense controllers?
Yes. EmuDeck’s 2.7 announcement explicitly names 8BitDo, Xbox and DualSense controllers, as well as Steam Controller and controllers used with other Linux handhelds. That is an announced hardware-support scope, not a guarantee for every model, connection mode or emulator configuration.

AutoMap’s controller assignment and physical connection quality are separate concerns. The release notes do not compare USB, wired or Bluetooth latency or reliability, and they give no measured performance improvement. Steam Input also affects ordering: the described behavior that places known built-in controls last is specifically when Steam Input is not involved. If player one is assigned unexpectedly, check which pads the operating system and emulator see and whether Steam Input is active.

Where is the EmuDeck 2.7 changelog?
The detailed 2.7.0 changelog was published in a separate early-access repository on September 14, 2026. The official GitHub releases page records “2.7 released for EA” on that date. Digital Citizen reports that public version 2.7.1 was pushed on September 29, 2026, but its release had no attached notes and its GitHub release body was empty. In short, the detailed change list is associated with the early-access 2.7.0 announcement, while the later public 2.7.1 entry does not explain its changes.

Platform limits: AutoMap is not the same as EmuDeck availability
The 2.7 announcement lists AutoMap under SteamOS/Linux, and the release analysis describes the feature as unavailable on Windows. That distinction matters because the reported public 2.7.1 package includes x86_64 and arm64 Linux AppImages as well as a Windows installer: a Windows installer does not mean every feature is available on Windows.
EmuDeck is a configuration layer that installs and configures emulator software; it is not itself an emulator and does not include ROMs, BIOS files or other copyrighted game files.
