Eminence Grey and Lumen announced a partnership on October 8, 2026, to connect sovereign AI infrastructure across multiple U.S. locations. Eminence Grey is contributing AI systems and orchestration components; Lumen is contributing physical infrastructure and programmable network connectivity. The announcement describes a customer-specific approach—not a generally available fixed product or a proven deployment result.

What the partnership is intended to do

The companies say they aim to connect AI workloads, data, and applications distributed across U.S. locations. The focus is not simply on placing compute in one facility: the proposed system is meant to give customers control over where information resides, how it moves between sites, and who can access it. The companies frame this as a way to deploy AI on sensitive, mission-critical data while retaining security and operational control.

Jim Fowler, Lumen’s Chief Technology and Product Officer, described the network dimension this way: “Sovereign AI isn’t just about where data lives. It’s about how data moves.” That is the partnership’s stated rationale, not an independently measured finding about the system’s security or performance.

What each company says it will contribute

Company Announced role and components
Eminence Grey AI nodes, dedicated GPU/HPC clusters, its Whitehorse orchestration and control plane, Outrider access appliances, and Qrypt post-quantum encryption.
Lumen Physical infrastructure and programmable network connectivity described as spanning edge to cloud.

Eminence Grey also describes its broader offering as turnkey infrastructure delivered as a service, combining physical infrastructure, GPU/HPC clusters, Whitehorse orchestration, secure-access appliances, and private fiber networks. That is the company’s description of its service, not independent validation of its capabilities.

How customers may get a system

The announcement says customers may reserve pre-architected systems or work with the companies on custom-designed infrastructure incorporating capabilities from Eminence Grey, Lumen, and other technology providers. Availability, configuration, and implementation depend on customer requirements. It does not establish a standard configuration, delivery date, or universal deployment process.

For an organization assessing the proposal, the practical design questions are likely to include:

VEVOR 6U Wall Mount Network Server Cabinet, 14.8'' Deep, Server Rack Cabinet Enclosure, 200 lbs Max. Ground-Mounted Load Capacity, with Locking Glass Door Side Panels, for IT Equipment, A/V Devices
  • Space Saving: Maximum depth: 14.8". Use the wall mount network cabinet to maximize available space for retail locations, classrooms, back offices, network cabinets, and other locations where space is limited.
  • Fast Heat Dissipation: The server cabinet is designed with vents to optimize airflow and avoid critical IT equipment overheating. Heat sink holes in the top, bottom, and rear panels are more conducive to heat dissipation.
  • Sturdy Construction: Robust welded frame construction for durability and long service life. With 100 lbs wall-mounted load capacity and 200 lbs ground-mounted load capacity, you can place multiple devices in the server rack cabinet as needed.
  • High Security: The locked glass door ensures the security of data and equipment. Wall mount rack enclosure server cabinet is ideal for use in public places such as offices, effectively protecting the security of your devices.
  • Hassle-free Installation: Fully adjustable square-hole mounting rails of the wall mount server cabinet facilitate device installation. Wiring holes on the top, bottom, and rear panels provide you with easy cable routing.
  • Where AI workloads and data need to reside, and which sites must exchange information.
  • Whether a dedicated GPU/HPC environment or a custom-designed arrangement is appropriate.
  • What access controls and isolation the workload requires.
  • How sites need to connect and how data is expected to move between them.
  • What implementation requirements apply to the customer’s systems and operations.

These are evaluation questions suggested by the distributed, customer-specific architecture; the announcement does not provide measured rankings or specifications with which to compare configurations.

What is—and is not—established

The companies describe dedicated infrastructure, verifiable isolation, and zero internet exposure as security design goals. The announcement does not provide deployment-specific audits, independent test results, or evidence that those properties have been achieved in a customer deployment. Harley Stowell, Eminence Grey’s Managing Partner, said: “The future of AI must be local, private, and secure.” That quote expresses the company’s position, not a verified outcome.
