Elon Musk said SpaceXAI will be renamed SpaceXSI after a user suggested the new name on October 4, 2026. That is an announced intention, not confirmation that the rebrand has taken effect. The statement followed a White House order directing the executive branch to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” instead of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI,” to the maximum extent permitted by law. The order does not require private companies to rename themselves.
What did Elon Musk say about SpaceXAI?
In a post reported by Axios on October 4, 2026, a user asked whether SpaceXAI could be renamed SpaceXSI. Musk replied, “Yes, we will make that change.” He also called SpaceX “a super intelligence company.” Axios reported the exchange.
The wording describes a future change. Axios’s report does not establish that SpaceXAI has already adopted the SpaceXSI name, nor does it give a date for the change.

The order’s stated scope is the executive branch. It does not establish a legal requirement for private companies to change their names or adopt SI terminology. Its 60-day period concerns proposed legislative language for a federal definition; it is not a deadline for SpaceXAI’s reported rebrand.
How are the order and SpaceXAI’s planned rename different?
| Development | Scope | Status | Timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Executive Order 14434 | Terminology used by the executive branch, subject to “to the maximum extent permitted by law” | Issued October 2, 2026 | Proposed legislative language for a federal definition is due within 60 days |
| Musk’s SpaceXAI statement | Company branding | Musk said, “Yes, we will make that change”; completion is not established in the October 4 Axios report | No rename date is reported |
The developments share a preference for “SI” over “AI,” but they are separate actions: one is a federal terminology directive with a defined government scope, while the other is Musk’s statement about a planned company name change.
