Moneycontrol reported on October 6, 2026, that Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index estimated Elon Musk’s net worth at about $1.04 trillion after a roughly $65 billion increase on October 5. The report attributed the rise to gains in Tesla and SpaceX shares. This is a dated estimate of paper wealth, not confirmation that Musk received $65 billion in cash or a live net-worth figure.

What happened on October 5?

Moneycontrol said Bloomberg’s index placed Musk at approximately $1.04 trillion on October 5, following a one-day estimated increase of about $65 billion. Moneycontrol also reported that SpaceX shares had risen about 13% and Tesla shares about 6.7% since early October. Those share-move figures are attributed to Moneycontrol; they are not independently confirmed here with an exchange-level price series. Moneycontrol’s October 6 report is the source for these figures.

The report also said Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles in the third quarter, more than analyst expectations, and that the result supported investor sentiment. That delivery figure and explanation are reported by Moneycontrol; the company release and the basis for the analyst-consensus comparison are not independently established here.

Why a rising share price changes a billionaire estimate

A net-worth tracker estimates the value of assets and liabilities; it does not measure how much cash someone has available. When the estimated value of a large shareholding rises, a tracker’s estimate of its owner’s wealth can rise too, even if the owner has not sold shares or received cash.

Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index profile says the index is dynamic, updates each business day after the New York market close, and values public-company stakes using the latest closing price. Its profile also describes its treatment of Musk’s Tesla and SpaceX holdings, including certain shares and options. The estimate therefore depends on market prices and the tracker’s methodology, not just on a bank balance.

How the October report compares with earlier snapshots

Tracker and snapshot Estimated net worth What the figure represents
Bloomberg Billionaires Index, September 18, 2026 $942 billion Bloomberg profile snapshot; its index updates each business day after the New York close.
Forbes, September 16, 2026 $886.4 billion Forbes profile’s real-time estimate on that date.
Bloomberg estimate reported by Moneycontrol for October 5, 2026 About $1.04 trillion Moneycontrol’s October 6 report of Bloomberg’s estimate after the reported rally.

The figures are snapshots from different dates, so they are not a same-day comparison or evidence that Bloomberg and Forbes disagreed at one moment. The September values also cannot independently confirm or disprove Moneycontrol’s report about October 5. Forbes’ Musk profile provides the September 16 snapshot; Bloomberg’s September 18 figure appears in its profile.

What “back in the Trillionaire Club” means

In this headline, “trillionaire” means that one tracker’s estimated net worth crossed the $1 trillion mark on a particular date. It does not mean Musk had $1 trillion in cash, that the estimate is permanent, or that every wealth tracker would show the same figure. The supported conclusion is narrower: Moneycontrol reported that Bloomberg’s estimate reached about $1.04 trillion for October 5, with Tesla and SpaceX share gains cited as the driver.
