EJ Archield appeared for Delaware against Liberty on October 2, 2026, after a pregame report said he was warming up with the Blue Hens’ starters. That report suggested he was trending toward an opportunity, but it did not confirm that Delaware had officially named him its starting quarterback.
Did EJ Archield start against Liberty?
RotoWire reported on October 2, before Delaware’s Week 5 game against Liberty, that Archield was warming up with the starters. The report, which credited Feathers and Field Goals, described him as “trending towards starting”; it did not cite an official announcement from Delaware confirming him as the starter. By October 3, the game had been played. StatMuse’s game log records Archield appearing in Delaware’s 30–14 loss to Liberty. It does not, by itself, establish whether he took the opening snap. StatMuse’s game log
Why was Archield in the quarterback discussion?
RotoWire said Delaware starter Nick Minicucci was out Friday night with a leg injury. It also reported that the team was changing its backup quarterback after Braden Streeter completed 2 of 16 passes with two interceptions against Virginia the previous week. These are the circumstances reported by RotoWire, not an independently verified injury diagnosis or an official depth-chart announcement. RotoWire’s pregame report

His college résumé should not be confused with his high-school production. Delaware’s roster bio lists 2,448 passing yards and 19 passing touchdowns, plus 300 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns, for his senior high-school season. Those are not college statistics; the profile showed no collegiate statistics available when accessed. Delaware’s roster bio

For comparison, the university’s 2026 preseason preview reported that Minicucci threw for 3,683 yards on 322 completions in 2025, averaging 283.3 passing yards per game. Those figures describe Minicucci’s prior season, not Archield’s. Delaware’s 2026 quarterback preview

Does this establish Archield’s role going forward?
No. The available reporting establishes a pregame indication that Archield was warming up with the starters and a later appearance against Liberty. It does not establish that Delaware officially named him its starter or clarify his depth-chart position after the game. One appearance is not enough to infer a dependable future role.
