Egypt’s reported fertilizer and building-material prices moved in different directions on October 6, 2026: four of six listed categories fell, while ammonium sulfate and grey cement rose. Arab Finance reported the per-ton figures as data from Egypt’s Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC).
Reported prices and daily changes
Arab Finance’s October 6 report gives the following prices in Egyptian pounds per ton and attributes them to IDSC. The percentages are reported daily movements.
| Product | Reported price per ton | Daily movement |
|---|---|---|
| Ammonium sulfate | EGP 20,292 | +2.4% |
| Ammonium nitrate | EGP 23,637 | −0.1% |
| Urea | EGP 24,184 | −0.1% |
| Grey cement | EGP 4,081 | +1.1% |
| Investment-grade steel | EGP 38,045.4 | −1% |
| Ezz Steel | EGP 39,888 | −1.1% |
Of these six categories, ammonium sulfate had the largest increase, while investment-grade steel had the largest decline. The headline’s reference to prices dropping therefore does not mean every listed product fell.

El Balad’s October 6 article reported Ezz Steel at EGP 39,949 per ton, investment-grade steel at EGP 37,767, and grey cement at EGP 4,080. These figures differ from Arab Finance’s numbers for the same named materials. El Balad describes some figures as averages, but the two reports do not provide enough detail to explain the discrepancies or establish that one set supersedes the other.

What the figures establish—and what they do not
These are dated October 6, 2026 reported prices, not an undated price list. Arab Finance attributes its figures to IDSC, but the reports do not establish whether the prices are wholesale, retail, producer, or another reference price. They also do not clarify geographic coverage, collection method, or enough about the reporting basis to reconcile the outlet-to-outlet differences.
Use the figures as reported snapshots rather than a definitive quote for a particular transaction or location. The underlying IDSC series and its methodology are not independently documented in the cited reports.
