Egenera acquired Dublin-based Fort Technologies in December 2012, adding cloud lifecycle-management software to its offering and positioning Fort as its European business. The price was not disclosed; a contemporary report described “several million euro” only as an industry estimate.
What happened in the Egenera–Fort Technologies deal?
The Irish Independent reported on 7 December 2012 that US company Egenera had acquired Fort Technologies, a Dublin-based cloud-management software company. A German-language reprint of the acquisition announcement was dated 5 December 2012. This was a historical acquisition, not a recent deal.
Fort’s software was described as enabling businesses to run cloud services on their own computers. The announcement characterized Fort as a cloud-lifecycle software company. The Irish Independent reported that Fort would become Egenera’s European business, with its 10 employees and three founders staying on.

What does Egenera do now, and is Fort’s software still available?
Egenera’s current company page describes it as a global cloud-services provider founded in 2000. It markets Xterity cloud services to managed service providers and IT organizations, with capabilities across compute, networking, storage, operating systems, applications, backup, disaster recovery, and migration. The page presents a cloud-management console and services, but does not establish whether Fort’s software remains a separately marketed product or exactly how the integration announced in 2012 unfolded.
