In the CBS Minnesota report published October 2, Police Chief Matt Sacket said no arrests had been made at that time and investigators were working to determine the circumstances. The cited reports do not establish who fired the shots, a motive, or a suspect description confirmed by police. Claims circulating on social media should not be treated as verified unless police or the district confirms them.

What do the school’s emergency terms mean?
Eden Prairie Schools distinguishes among several types of emergency direction. The terms describe different actions, so follow the specific instruction issued by the school or emergency responders:
- Hold: Keep hallways clear while people remain in place.
- Secure: Keep people inside because of activity outside.
- Lockdown: Use when there is an active threat and imminent danger and evacuation is unsafe.
- Evacuate: Leave because it is no longer safe to remain inside.
The district’s family guidance advises families to stay home, stay informed and wait for reunification instructions. It also explains that school leaders coordinate with police and may not immediately release details while facts are being gathered or investigative and student-privacy requirements apply.
What has officials said about the incident?
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said in a written statement issued late Friday, as quoted by CBS Minnesota: “No homecoming, in any community, should be disrupted by gun violence.”
