The ECM Casa V 80045AU is a compact, manual, single-boiler espresso machine for buyers who want hands-on control and already plan to buy a separate espresso grinder. It has a vibration pump, a manually adjustable brew-pressure setting and a steam wand, so making coffee and steaming milk are separate tasks rather than push-button steps. CHOICE lists its Australian 80045AU model as discontinued; confirm local stock, model, warranty and service arrangements before buying.
What the ECM Casa V is—and what it is not
ECM’s Casa V is a manual home espresso machine built around a single brass boiler of approximately 0.4 L, a vibration pump and a ring brew group. It includes a pump-pressure gauge and manually adjustable brewing pressure, but ECM’s home-line specification sheet does not list a PID temperature controller. The machine has a manual steam wand and hot-water function, so the owner manages brewing, milk steaming and transitions between tasks.
It is not an all-in-one coffee maker: it has no integrated grinder. ECM’s manual emphasizes that the grinder and coffee bean matter alongside the espresso machine. Manufacturer figures come from ECM’s February 2024 manual and home-line specification sheet. CHOICE’s figures are from its page accessed October 7, 2026, which does not expose its underlying publication date: CHOICE ECM Casa V 80045AU listing. The weight differs slightly, and the dimension conventions are not directly identical; use the manufacturer’s with-portafilter depth when checking whether the machine will fit beneath cabinets or on a shallow counter.

- Useful Tips: Please kindly note that do not brew coffee immediately after frothing milk. The machine must cool down first otherwise the temperature and the pressure inside the machine will be too high, and the machine will go into over-heating protection mode. How long does it take to heat up?
ECM’s brochure advertises a “very short heat up phase (5-7 min.)”; that is a manufacturer claim, not an independent measured result. A retailer listing gives a broader 5–15 minute estimate. The available sources do not establish a verified, repeatable heat-up time under specified conditions, so treat either figure as guidance rather than a guaranteed wait. What using and maintaining it involves
The Casa V’s controls and workflow suit someone willing to learn and repeat a manual routine. ECM’s February 2024 manual instructs owners to fill the boiler at initial use, flush the machine before the first coffee, and flush about 300 ml during daily use. It also provides separate instructions for coffee, hot water and steam, along with cleaning and brew-group maintenance.

Cleaning is part of ownership, not an optional add-on. ECM lists detergent for blind-filter brew-group cleaning and descaling powder among its recommended supplies. Follow the current manual’s cleaning and water guidance; do not assume a generic cleaner is suitable. The manual identifies products by item numbers PAV9001034 or 89450 for brew-group detergent and PAV9001040 for descaling powder, but those numbers do not guarantee current availability.

Its suggestion of around 7–9 g per cup is troubleshooting guidance for those cases, not a universal recipe. The manual also advises adjusting grind when the beans change. Read ECM’s Casa V manual.

What comes in the box, and what else you need
Jetblack Espresso lists a portafilter, single and double baskets, blind filter, tamper, group brush and manual. Package contents can vary by seller or change over time, so confirm the actual bundle before purchase. Since a tamper is listed as included, a replacement is optional rather than a basic requirement. - Espresso grinder: Required for a complete setup because the Casa V has no built-in grinder. Choose one that can make fine, consistent espresso adjustments; the sources here do not establish a particular grinder as the best match.
- Cleaning supplies: Use brew-group detergent and descaler compatible with the instructions in ECM’s current manual.
- Counter space: Allow for the machine’s 410 mm depth with the portafilter fitted, plus room for the separate grinder and normal access to the water tank and steam wand.
Is the ECM Casa V 80045AU discontinued in Australia?
CHOICE’s Australian 80045AU product page labels the model discontinued. That describes the listing’s status, not necessarily every seller’s inventory: remaining new stock or used machines may still appear, and availability can change. The same CHOICE page displays $1,499 and a one-year warranty, but the price is a listing figure, not a current offer. CHOICE’s expert rating and test results are members-only on the accessible page, so those figures do not support a public performance score or measured verdict.

Before paying, ask the seller to confirm the exact regional model and its voltage and plug, whether it is new or used, what warranty applies, the return policy, what is included, and where the machine can be serviced. Who should consider it—and what to compare
The Casa V may suit a buyer seeking a relatively compact, substantial manual machine with a large reservoir, a pressure gauge and manual brew-pressure adjustment, and who is comfortable purchasing a grinder separately. Its 14 kg manufacturer weight and manual workflow are worth factoring into setup and day-to-day use.

If you are comparing it with other ECM machines, compare the actual design differences rather than assuming a higher-priced or larger model performs better: boiler arrangement (single boiler, heat exchanger or dual boiler), temperature controls such as PID, pump type, pressure adjustment, footprint and weight, and whether water connection is tank-only or optionally fixed. ECM’s home-line sheet helps distinguish those designs, but it is not a source for current local prices or a controlled performance ranking. For the Casa V specifically, do not treat unavailable CHOICE test scores as evidence of a particular taste, temperature-consistency or milk-frothing result.
