Bandai Namco has announced Genesis Maidens as the first DLC expansion for Echoes of Aincrad, targeting winter 2026. The publisher has named PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam as platforms. Its announcement details a new story and side quests across new areas on Aincrad’s first and second floors, with Mito joining the party.
When does Genesis Maidens release?
Bandai Namco’s U.S. announcement says Genesis Maidens is in development and set to release in winter 2026. It gives no specific date, so the window should not be read as a confirmed launch day.
Which platforms are announced?
The publisher names PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. The announcement does not provide separate platform-specific release dates or details about purchase formats for the expansion.

A new story in Aincrad
The expansion is described as adding a new storyline and side quests in new areas of Aincrad’s first and second floors.

Mito joins the party
Misumi Tozawa, better known as Mito, joins as an ally. Bandai Namco describes her as a character from the Sword Art Online Progressive films who supports players while dealing with guilt over past actions.
A curved sword and new skills
Mito brings a curved sword weapon type, along with her own combination and support skills.

Armor enhancement
The DLC also adds armor enhancement with passive effects. The announcement does not specify the full enhancement system or its available effects.

In a September 25, 2026 update notice, Bandai Namco said free update version 1.0.6 was released for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. The publisher said its balance adjustments looked ahead to Genesis Maidens, aiming to broaden viable builds and refine combat.

The same notice said Bandai Namco planned to introduce a difficulty setting beyond Very Hard alongside the expansion. That is a stated plan, not confirmation of the final launch contents.
Does the announcement confirm key art?
The announcement text confirms the DLC and its features, but does not explicitly identify an image as key art or say that key art was revealed. The claim that key art has been revealed is therefore not confirmed by the announcement details available here.

Is Genesis Maidens a physical release?
Bandai Namco’s game page lists physical editions of the base game, including a PS5 edition. The DLC announcement does not identify Genesis Maidens as a physical product. The game page also lists an “Expansion DLC” package, but that generic listing does not establish whether it includes this separately announced expansion.
