An early 2023 Geekbench OpenCL comparison reported a score of 105,630 for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 versus approximately 89,000 for the RTX 3060—about an 18% difference. That figure applies to this particular benchmark comparison; it does not mean the RTX 4060 is 18% faster in games or every GPU workload.
What the early Geekbench result shows
Notebookcheck reported the RTX 4060 at 105,630 and the RTX 3060 at approximately 89,000 in Geekbench OpenCL testing in 2023. The resulting difference is roughly 18%. VideoCardz also described early results as “up to 18% faster,” citing Geekbench’s rankings. Read the result as an initial benchmark observation, not a promise of a fixed performance gain. Notebookcheck’s 2023 report and VideoCardz’s coverage provide the contemporaneous figures.
Why 18% in OpenCL does not mean 18% in games
Geekbench OpenCL measures performance in an OpenCL compute benchmark. Game frame rates measure performance in specific games under particular resolutions, graphics settings, drivers, and test-system conditions. The results answer different questions: an OpenCL score cannot be converted directly into an expected gaming uplift.
NVIDIA’s launch-era comparisons specify games, 1920×1080 resolution, highest settings, DLSS Quality mode, Frame Generation where supported, and a stated test platform. Those game tests are separate evidence, not validation or refutation of the Geekbench OpenCL result. NVIDIA’s 2023 RTX 4060 announcement describes its product positioning and gaming comparisons.

- Powered by NVIDIA DLSS3, ultra-efficient Ada Lovelace arch, and full ray tracing
- 4th Generation Tensor Cores: Up to 4x performance with DLSS 3 vs. brute-force rendering
- 3rd Generation RT Cores: Up to 2x ray tracing performance

- Axial-tech fan design features a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
How to interpret the scores and their limits
The historical figures are not a controlled head-to-head review
Geekbench says its GPU charts are based on user-submitted Geekbench 6 results. Individual configurations and sample variation can affect scores, so a pair of reported results does not establish performance across identical systems. Geekbench’s GPU benchmark chart is an aggregate listing rather than a controlled review of the two cards.
Do not mix the 2023 comparison with a current chart snapshot
The current Geekbench chart shows a separate RTX 3060 score of 87,450. That value is a different chart snapshot and should not be substituted for the approximately 89,000 figure used in the historical 2023 calculation. The RTX 3060 model page likewise describes user-submitted results and current benchmark listings.
The original test details are not established
The original submission URL and full system configuration for the reported RTX 4060 score of 105,630 are not identified in the available reporting. Without those details, the result cannot be independently reproduced from that report alone; no host system, driver, or other test condition should be inferred.

RTX 4060 context: launch specifications and price
NVIDIA’s 2023 guide lists the RTX 4060 with 8 GB of GDDR6, 3,072 CUDA cores, and a 2.46 GHz boost clock. It gives a launch-era MSRP of $299 and says the card first released in June 2023, positioning it for 1080p gaming. The MSRP is historical launch information, not a current retail quote or a recommendation about today’s value. NVIDIA’s RTX 4060 and RTX 4060 Ti product page provides official product-family details.
What this means if you are considering an upgrade
The early Geekbench comparison supports a narrow conclusion: in the reported OpenCL results, the RTX 4060 scored about 18% higher than the RTX 3060. It does not by itself establish which card is better for your games, creative applications, or budget. A buying decision needs workload-specific reviews, current prices, and comparable test conditions; this benchmark alone cannot answer whether an upgrade is worthwhile.
