The free month of Origin Access was an October 2019, time-limited promotion and cannot be claimed now. Enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) on your EA Account is still supported, however, and takes only a few minutes. The current desktop client is the EA app, not the legacy Origin installer.
Can I still get the free month of Origin Access?
No. HotHardware’s October 3, 2019 report described a promotion that required users to enable EA Account Login Verification by the end of October 2019. The reward was scheduled to begin on or after November 1, 2019:
- Origin Access Basic members were to receive one free month of Basic.
- Origin Access Premier members were to receive one free month of Premier.
The offer was tied to that 2019 deadline and is not a current entitlement. The report advised cancelling before the next billing month if the subscriber did not want a paid renewal.

EA documents the available methods but does not publish a comparative effectiveness ranking. Choose the method you can reliably access and prepare its recovery path before you sign out.

- POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The Security Key C NFC is the essential physical passkey for protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts.
- WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single Security Key C NFC secures 100 of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more.
- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your Security Key C NFC via USB-C and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC) to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required.
- TRUSTED PASSKEY TECHNOLOGY: Uses the latest passkey standards (FIDO2/WebAuthn & FIDO U2F) but does not support One-Time Passwords. For complex needs, check out the YubiKey 5 Series.
- BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.
| Method | Availability | Recovery readiness | Main access dependency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Uses the email account associated with your EA Account | Save EA backup codes in case that mailbox is unavailable | Access to your email account | |
| Authenticator app | Generates codes in a compatible authenticator app | Save EA backup codes before losing or replacing the device | Access to the enrolled authenticator device |
| Text Message | Sends a code to your enrolled phone number | Save EA backup codes if the phone or number cannot receive messages | Access to the phone, number, and mobile service |
Where are EA backup codes, and why do they matter?
After enabling 2FA, return to the Two-factor authentication area of the EA Account Security and Privacy page and select View backup codes. Store the codes in a password manager or another secure location, not in a publicly accessible note or message.
EA identifies backup codes as the only way to sign in from a new device when your selected verification method is unavailable. Treat each code as sensitive account-recovery information and do not share it.

- FIDO2 & Passkey Ready: Business-ready and FIDO2 L1 certified. This key is supported by major management suites and is ideal for both individual and enterprise deployment. Works seamlessly with Gmail, Facebook, GitHub, Dropbox, Coinbase, and more.
- Dedicated Manager App: Use the Thetis Manager App for the initial hardware PIN setup. Setting the PIN on the device first ensures a smooth registration process. Once the PIN is configured, you can begin registering the key across your favorite FIDO2-compatible online services.
- Universal Connectivity (USB-C, USB-A, & NFC): Designed for PCs, Macs, iPhones, and Android. For mobile use, simply unfold the key, align it with your phone’s NFC antenna, and hold for a few seconds to authenticate.
- Enhanced MFA (FIDO2 & TOTP/HOTP): Strengthen your security with flexible options. Use the Manager App to access TOTP/HOTP features for accounts that do not yet support FIDO2.
- Check FIDO2 compatibility before purchase - Known limitations: ID Austria is not supported (requires FIDO2 Level 2). Windows Hello login only works with Windows Enterprise editions that support Entra ID. NFC is supported only through mobile authentication, Not MacOS/windows.
What replaced Origin?
Origin Access and the Origin PC installer are legacy references. EA’s current recovery guidance says that Error 20:403 appears when someone tries to install Origin for PC and directs them to install the EA app instead. Use the EA app for the current desktop route; turning on 2FA is managed from your EA Account security settings.
