The global e-brokerage market is forecast to grow from an estimated $14.1 billion in 2024 to $34.6 billion in 2034, according to Global Market Insights (GMI). The forecast implies a 9.4% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for 2025–2034. Recent company reports show strong activity at selected platforms, but those figures are not a measure of the entire market—and they do not prove that trading volumes caused the forecast.
How big is the e-brokerage market?
GMI estimates the global e-brokerage market at $14.1 billion in 2024 and forecasts $34.6 billion in 2034, a 9.4% CAGR over 2025–2034. GMI identifies 2024 as the base year. These are the research firm’s estimate and forecast, not measured results for 2034. Its public market page does not provide enough of the paid report’s tables or calculations to independently reproduce the model. GMI’s e-brokerage market page describes growth drivers and market segments; Research and Markets’ catalogue entry describes the GMI study as a 180-page global report published in May 2025.
| Measure | GMI figure | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 market size | $14.1 billion | GMI’s estimate of global e-brokerage market size for the base year. |
| 2034 market size | $34.6 billion | GMI’s forecast, not a measured future result. |
| Forecast growth | 9.4% CAGR | GMI’s forecast rate for 2025–2034. |
| Retail-investor segment | 68% | GMI’s reported share of the market in 2024. |
| Mobile-based platforms | Around 44% | GMI’s reported share of the market in 2024. |
| U.S. market | $5.7 billion | GMI’s reported U.S. e-brokerage revenue in 2024; it says the U.S. accounted for around 92% of North America’s market. |
The retail and mobile percentages describe different segmentation dimensions: one classifies investors, the other platforms. They are not portions that should be added together. GMI forecasts at least 9.8% CAGR for both its mobile-platform and retail-investor segments over 2025–2034, faster than its overall market forecast.
What counts as e-brokerage?
E-brokerage covers digital services through which customers access brokerage or investment services. GMI segments the market along several axes rather than treating every provider or account as equivalent:

The list is not a performance comparison and does not mean that each firm operates in every country or serves the same customer needs. Availability, asset access, costs, and regulatory protections vary by provider and jurisdiction.
What recent trading figures show—and what they do not
Company disclosures offer examples of activity at particular platforms. Their periods and units differ, so they should not be combined into a single industry total or treated as proof of market-wide retail behavior.
Charles Schwab: daily average trades in Q2 2026
Schwab reported a record 11.9 million daily average trades in Q2 2026, 57% above Q2 2025. It also reported 1.4 million new brokerage account openings during the quarter and 48.0 million total client accounts. These are Schwab-specific measures. In the company’s release, CEO Rick Wurster said investors continued to engage with Schwab’s expanding set of solutions; that is the company’s characterization of its own results. Schwab’s Q2 2026 results provide the company’s figures.

Robinhood: dollar volume, contracts, customers, and assets in August 2026
Robinhood reported $335.4 billion in equity notional trading volume in August 2026, up 68% year over year, and 292.5 million options contracts traded, up 50%. The company also reported 28.6 million funded customers and $383.7 billion in total platform assets, up 26% year over year. Notional dollar volume, options contracts, customer counts, and assets are different measures. Activity did not rise uniformly across products: Robinhood reported crypto notional volume of $17.5 billion, down 38% year over year. See Robinhood’s August 2026 operating data.
These releases establish activity at two named firms, not a market-wide trading count. Nor do they show that higher volumes caused GMI’s forecast, or establish whether any brokerage company’s shares are attractive investments.
What GMI says is driving growth
GMI points to broader internet and smartphone access, rising retail participation, demand for self-directed investing and robo-advice, low or zero commissions, and improvements to digital platforms. It also cites product expansion—including ETFs, fractional shares, crypto, and other assets—and AI-enabled tools and mobile features. These are themes in GMI’s analysis, not a guarantee that every broker offers every feature or that an offering is available in every country.

Convenience and lower visible trading charges do not mean every platform is cost-free. A practical comparison should look beyond a commission headline to supported assets, account and transaction charges, features that may generate revenue for the provider, research and education tools, security and privacy practices, and local regulatory arrangements. The GMI page does not establish a best platform or support a provider recommendation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat could limit the forecast?
GMI also identifies intense competition, margin pressure, cybersecurity, and data privacy as challenges. Competition can make low-cost access and richer features important to customer acquisition, while also putting pressure on provider economics. Security and privacy are user-facing concerns as financial activity moves onto digital platforms. The public GMI page names these issues but does not quantify their individual effects on its market forecast.
Because the underlying paid report’s full model is not available on the public page, the forecast should be read as one market research firm’s projection rather than a certainty or independently validated outcome. The company operating figures above add context on selected providers, but cannot validate the forecast on their own.
How to compare e-brokerage platforms as a user
Market growth does not identify the right account for an individual. Before choosing a platform, compare the factors that directly affect your intended use:
Quick Recap
- Availability and regulation: Confirm the provider serves your country and understand which regulated entity holds the account.
- Assets and services: Check that the platform supports the investments and account type you need; availability can differ by jurisdiction.
- Total costs: Review commissions alongside account, transaction, currency-conversion, and other applicable charges.
- Tools and support: Assess research, education, automation, and customer-support options against your experience and needs.
- Security and privacy: Review account safeguards and how the provider handles personal and financial data.
