The Dyson Big Ball 447177-01 is a bagless canister vacuum with a 1.5 L bin listed by Dyson Australia, but independent public figures report a smaller 1.1 L measured dust-collector volume. CHOICE lists its weight as 8 kg and reach as 9.16 m; its detailed cleaning scores are behind a membership paywall. That leaves useful specifications to weigh against an important unknown: the public evidence does not establish how well this exact model cleans carpets, hard floors, or pet hair.
Which Dyson Big Ball is this review about?
This is the Dyson Big Ball vacuum with SKU 447177-01, listed by Dyson Australia. It is a bagless, electrically powered canister (or barrel) vacuum. Do not assume that specifications or parts for another Big Ball or a Cinetic model apply to this SKU.
Dyson’s Australian product page describes 2 Tier Radial cyclones, advanced filtration, a turbine cleaner head, suitability for all floor types, hygienic dirt ejection, ball steering, and a self-righting design. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent test results. Dyson also says the wand extends to 125 cm. See Dyson Australia’s listing for SKU 447177-01.

| Measure | Dyson Australia | CHOICE public listing |
|---|---|---|
| Power | Not stated in the cited Dyson product-page details. | 800 W stated power; 816 W measured power. |
| Dust capacity | 1.5 L stated bin volume. | 1.1 L measured dust-collector volume. |
| Weight | Not stated in the cited Dyson product-page details. | 8 kg. |
| Reach from power point | Not stated in the cited Dyson product-page details. | 9.16 m. |
CHOICE’s public listing does not explain the methodology behind each displayed measurement, so treat these as its reported figures, not as a complete independent performance test. The capacity figures in particular describe different reported values: Dyson’s advertised bin volume is 1.5 L, while CHOICE lists a measured dust-collector volume of 1.1 L. Do not substitute one for the other. View CHOICE’s exact-model listing.
How much does the public evidence say about cleaning?
CHOICE’s page identifies a review of the 447177-01, but the expert rating and detailed scores—including carpet cleaning, cleaning performance, pet hair, edges, ease of use, and noise—are not publicly visible on the listing reviewed. The public material therefore does not support a claim that CHOICE recommends or criticizes the vacuum, nor does it establish how it performs on any of those tasks.

- POWERFUL UPRIGHT VACUUM CLEANER: DuoClean PowerFins Technology combines two brushrolls—a PowerFins and soft roller—for nonstop contact to deep clean carpets and area rugs, directly engage hard floors, and pick up more debris in every pass (vs. original DuoClean)
- LIFT-AWAY ABOVE-FLOOR CLEANING: Step on the easy-release pedal to detach the lightweight Lift-Away pod for portable cleaning on stairs, furniture, baseboards, ceilings, and other above-floor areas
- SELF-CLEANING BRUSHROLL: Delivers powerful pet hair pickup with no hair wrap, continuously removing hair from the brushroll as you clean carpets and hard floors—ideal for homes with pets
- HEPA FILTRATION & ANTI-ALLERGEN SEAL: The HEPA filter and Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology trap 99.9% of dust and allergens inside the vacuum cleaner for whole-home cleaning—great for allergy-prone households
- PERFECT FOR PETS: The Pet Power Brush tackles stubborn pet hair on stairs and upholstery, while the Upholstery Tool removes embedded hair and debris from furniture and other fabric surfaces
That gap matters if you are choosing a vacuum for a particular home. Before comparing this model with another canister, look for results gathered on a comparable basis for carpet and hard floors, pet-hair pickup, steering and handling, and noise. Compare bin capacities only when both figures use the same measurement basis. Include weight, reach, included tools, local warranty terms, and current local price in the decision as well.

How should you maintain it?
Dyson Canada’s Big Ball support page says to rinse the washable filter under cold water until clear, without detergent, and let it dry fully for at least 24 hours before refitting. Its wording is: “Rinse under a cold tap until the water runs clear – you don’t need any detergents.” Empty the bin when debris reaches the MAX marker. These are Canadian support instructions; use the guidance supplied for your unit and market if it differs. Dyson Canada Big Ball support and parts.
The cited US CY23 manual also says to empty at MAX and allow the washable filter to dry for at least 24 hours. It says the brush bar defaults to on and can be slowed using the suction-release trigger for delicate floors. The manual warns that the brush bar may damage some carpet types and delicate hard floors, and advises checking flooring and carpet manufacturers’ cleaning instructions. It describes the machine as intended for household dirt, hair, and allergens—not rubble, ash, or plaster—and says fine plaster dust or flour should be vacuumed only in very small amounts. Because this is a US CY23 manual, confirm these operating limits in the manual supplied with the exact Australian unit before relying on them as model-specific directions. US CY23 operating manual.

What about warranty and replacement parts?
CHOICE’s public listing shows a two-year warranty field, but the page does not provide the warranty document or further context. Confirm the warranty and any retailer terms with Dyson Australia for the exact unit and purchase date; do not apply the five-year limited warranty printed in the cited US CY23 manual to an Australian purchase.
Dyson Canada lists a replacement pre-filter (967371-01), hose (967366-02), bin (967363-02), and extension tube (967365-01) on its Big Ball support page. That page does not establish compatibility with Australian SKU 447177-01. Before ordering, check the machine’s rating plate and Dyson’s compatibility information for the exact model and part number. The Canadian page also describes repair coverage and a service guarantee, but those terms are for Canada and are not a service promise for Australian owners.

Is the Dyson Big Ball 447177-01 worth buying?
The public information gives you a clear picture of the advertised kit and selected specifications, but not enough to make a confident performance verdict. The 8 kg weight and 9.16 m reach reported by CHOICE, along with Dyson’s listed tools and 125 cm wand extension, can help you assess fit for your space. For a purchase decision based on cleaning ability, seek accessible independent scores for the surfaces and tasks that matter to you; the publicly visible CHOICE listing does not disclose those results.
Price and stock are particularly changeable. Dyson Australia showed the model in stock at A$395, reduced from A$599, when accessed on 2026-10-07. Treat that as a dated listing, not a current guarantee, and check the live product page before buying. Check Dyson Australia’s current product listing.
