Dynasty Warriors series producer Tomohiko Sho reportedly would rather spend his remaining career making new games or sequels than leading more remasters. That is a personal preference, not a Koei Tecmo announcement that the series’ remasters are over: Sho also reportedly said the performance of Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered could affect the chances of revisiting later games.
What did the Dynasty Warriors producer say?
In an interview with Japanese outlet 4Gamer, as reported in English by VGC, Sho said he was thinking about how many more games he could make before retirement. VGC rendered his remarks as: “I’m in my 50s now, and I sometimes wonder ‘how many more games can I make before I retire’, so I’d rather make new games or sequels.”

Sho reportedly added that he was considering letting someone else take on a future remaster project. VGC’s English rendering of his explanation says the current remaster was “really hard work” and took years to bring to fruition. These are VGC’s translations of remarks from the 4Gamer interview, not independently checked wording from a Japanese transcript.
Will Dynasty Warriors 4 get a remaster?
It remains possible, but it has not been confirmed. VGC reports that Sho said a strong performance by Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered could increase the chances of remastering Dynasty Warriors 4 and later entries. The report gives no sales threshold or firm decision, so this is a conditional possibility rather than a release plan.
#1 Best Overall
- Dynasty Warriors 4 takes battlefield action to the next level, allowing players to experience the thrill of taking on multiple opponents at once and fighting against impossible odds. A host of new features add greater depth to the gameplay, as well as more insight into the characters and turbulent events of the Three Kingdoms era. The concepts of Honor and Loyalty in the face of adversity serve as the main theme for the game. The obligations of generals to their Lords and Allies guide the paths
That distinction matters: Sho’s reluctance describes how he would prefer to spend his own time, not a decision by Koei Tecmo to cancel future remasters. His suggestion that someone else could lead a next project also leaves open a path for the series to continue revisiting older games without him directing each one.
Why does Sho find remastering difficult?
Sho reportedly described the work as close to making a game again. VGC’s translation quotes him saying: “It would be almost a complete remake, and even this time I sometimes thought, ‘why am I remaking something I made myself?’”
Rank #2
- Act fast as the unprecedented size and scale of enemy armies overwhelm the battlefield.
- Coordinate with allied armies and deploy battle tactics in real time while slicing through waves of soldiers in the most tension-filled fights in DYNASTY WARRIORS history!
- For the first time in a DYNASTY WARRIORS title, the storyline will be told through the eyes of a “nameless hero”
- Game-key card: Full game download via internet required.
The interview accompanied the release of Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered, a modernized version of the PS2-era game. VGC describes the remaster as built with Unreal Engine 5 and reports that Sho had worked on the franchise since Dynasty Warriors 2 before becoming its series producer. The comments therefore come from a producer with a long history on the games, but they do not establish what resources or schedule a future remaster would require.

What this means for future Dynasty Warriors games
Sho’s stated preference is to prioritize new games or sequels while he still has time to make them. At the same time, the future of remasters may depend on how the current release performs and who takes responsibility for any later project. Neither a Dynasty Warriors 4 remaster nor a definitive end to remasters is announced in the reported comments.
