If Dressmaker crashes on your PC, first identify whether the game closes or freezes on its own, or whether Windows itself blue-screens or restarts. Then compare your PC with the game’s minimum requirements, update Windows and drivers, verify the game files in Steam, and test for software conflicts. These are general troubleshooting steps—not a confirmed universal fix for Dressmaker.
First, identify what is crashing
“Crashing” can describe several different symptoms, and they call for different next steps. Note exactly what happens and when: while launching, in the tutorial, or after a repeatable action.
- Dressmaker will not open or closes to the desktop: Treat this as a game launch or application problem and work through the Steam troubleshooting steps below.
- The game freezes but Windows remains usable: Record where it freezes and whether the same action reliably triggers it. A repeatable tutorial or interface problem may differ from a general stability issue.
- The graphics driver resets: Note the timing and any on-screen error. Update Windows and your computer’s drivers, but do not assume a driver update will necessarily resolve it.
- Windows shows a blue or gray screen, or the whole PC restarts: Steam says this indicates a computer-level problem rather than a problem with the game or Steam. Follow Steam’s guidance for blue- or gray-screen crashes; if failures persist, seek help from the PC manufacturer or a local technician.
Keep a short note of the symptom, when it occurs, and any exact error text. That makes later troubleshooting and support requests more useful.
Check that your PC meets Dressmaker’s minimum requirements
The Steam listing for Dressmaker gives these Windows minimums:

These are minimum requirements, not recommended specifications. Steam cautions that a computer at or near a game’s minimum may still have launch or performance problems. If your PC falls below one of the listed minimums, address that shortfall before concluding that Dressmaker has a game defect; the listing does not establish that buying a particular graphics card or other component will fix a crash.
Try Steam’s general launch troubleshooting steps
Steam’s launch troubleshooting guidance recommends the following checks for games that fail to start. They are general diagnostic steps, not Dressmaker-specific guaranteed cures. Try them in order and change one thing at a time.

- Update Windows and your computer’s drivers. Install available Windows updates and driver updates for your computer, then retry the game. Do not rely on an unverified claim about a particular driver version.
- Verify Dressmaker’s installed files. In Steam, open your Library, right-click Dressmaker, select Properties, open Installed Files, and choose Verify integrity of game files. Steam notes that corrupted game files can cause launch problems. Let the check finish, then try starting the game again.
- Temporarily disable non-essential software. Close or disable non-essential applications that may interfere with Steam or the game, then retry. If the symptom changes, re-enable items one by one to identify whether a conflict is involved.
Install Dressmaker updates and check for a specific tutorial issue
Make sure Steam has installed the current Dressmaker update before retrying. The official early patch notes describe specific fixes, not a general crash fix: Build 403 addressed a cursor that sometimes disappeared in the cutting-room tutorial, among other changes, and Build 410 fixed a tutorial softlock caused by clicking the sketchbook before ringing the bell.
If your problem matches one of those tutorial behaviors, update the game and retry the relevant step. The published notes do not establish those issues as the cause of arbitrary crashes, nor do they identify a general PC crash fix.

When to contact support
If Dressmaker alone continues to crash after these checks, contact the support address in the game’s Steam support listing: support@freelives.net. Include:
- Whether the game fails to launch, closes, freezes, or produces another symptom.
- When it happens and the steps that reliably reproduce it.
- When the problem began and the game build, if visible.
- The exact error message, if any.
- Your Windows version and PC specifications, including CPU, graphics hardware, and RAM.
If Windows blue-screens or the whole PC restarts, treat that separately as a computer-level failure and use Steam’s system-crash guidance or contact the manufacturer or a technician rather than assuming the game is responsible.
