DreamHost is a reasonable lower-cost option for WordPress sites that can fit its plan limits and do not need managed tools such as staging and a CDN. Its standard WordPress Hosting plans include daily backups and SSL, while DreamPress costs more but adds managed WordPress features. The main buying caveat is the introductory billing term: the advertised monthly equivalent may require paying for four years upfront, and the renewal price is higher.

What DreamHost WordPress hosting includes

DreamHost sells two relevant services: standard WordPress Hosting, which is the lower-cost option, and DreamPress, its managed WordPress hosting line. Standard plans include NVMe storage, unmetered bandwidth, daily automated backups, and unlimited free SSL certificates. DreamPress adds tools for staging and performance management, including caching and Bunny CDN.

Plan visit allowances and storage are useful for checking whether a site fits a tier; they are not guarantees that every WordPress installation will perform well at that traffic level. Plugins, themes, media, configuration, and traffic patterns also affect performance.

DreamHost WordPress plans and pricing

The following prices and allowances are listed on DreamHost’s [WordPress Hosting plans page] for a four-year offer. The monthly figures are equivalents for that selected billing term, not month-to-month prices.

Plan Introductory rate Renewal rate Websites Monthly visit allowance NVMe storage
Launch $1.99/month for the first four years $7.99/month 25 40,000 25 GB
Growth $3.49/month for the first four years $8.99/month 50 200,000 50 GB
Scale $7.99/month for the first four years $19.99/month 100 400,000 100 GB

The same page lists unmetered bandwidth, daily automated backups, unlimited free SSL certificates, three months of included mailboxes, a first-year domain, and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Pricing and currencies can vary with location and term; check the checkout total, selected term, and renewal rate for your country before ordering. A one-year offer may have different introductory and renewal rates.

Renewal and refunds

DreamHost’s Terms of Service say services automatically renew at the then-current non-promotional rate for the original contract length unless canceled before renewal. That means the $1.99 Launch monthly equivalent is not the rate to assume for the next term. The 30-day money-back guarantee has eligibility limits: it applies only to specified website-hosting services and payment methods, and domain registrations are non-refundable. Review the terms attached to your exact purchase.

DreamHost WordPress Hosting vs. DreamPress

Choose standard WordPress Hosting if core hosting features and a lower price matter more than built-in staging or a CDN. Consider DreamPress if you regularly test changes before publishing, want more managed WordPress tooling, or value its listed WordPress support.

Feature Standard WordPress Hosting DreamPress
Backups Daily automated backups Daily and on-demand backups; business plans list 14-day daily-backup retention and agency plans 30 days
Staging Not listed among the standard plan features One-click staging
CDN and caching Not listed among the standard plan features Bunny CDN and caching
Developer access WordPress installation options SSH and WP-CLI
Migration Not listed among the standard plan features DreamPress 1 includes one professional site migration
Entry plan Launch: 25 websites, 40,000 monthly visits, 25 GB storage DreamPress 1: one website, 40,000 monthly visitors, 15 GB storage
Entry-plan price Launch: $1.99/month for four years, then $7.99/month on renewal DreamPress 1: $14.99/month for the first year, then $19.99/month on renewal

DreamPress details and prices are listed on the official DreamPress plans page. Its higher tiers increase site count, storage, and visitor allowances; check the current plan comparison for the limits that match your needs.

Staging and backup caveats

DreamPress staging requires free storage. Work on a staging copy is outside the live site’s daily backups, and publishing staging changes can overwrite newer changes made on the live site. Keep a current copy of important work and review the publish operation before applying it.

How DreamHost performed in WPBeginner’s tests

WPBeginner reviewer Nouman Yaqoob reported results from July 2026 using an identical WordPress test site and the same tools and checklist across 14 other hosts. The stated method used GTmetrix for Largest Contentful Paint (LCP), k6 stress testing with 50 virtual users, response-time checks across six regions, and 30 days of UptimeRobot monitoring. These are measurements from that publisher’s test setup and window, not a guarantee for other sites or a separate replication.

Measure WPBeginner result Context
Largest Contentful Paint 986 ms WPBeginner, July 2026 test
Mean response time 658 ms Across six regions, WPBeginner, July 2026 test
Uptime 100% 30-day UptimeRobot monitoring window, WPBeginner, July 2026
P95 response under load 245 ms 50 simultaneous virtual users; no failed requests reported by WPBeginner, July 2026
WPBeginner Score 64/100 WPBeginner’s composite score, which weights performance more heavily than value

WPBeginner characterized DreamHost as slower than the other budget hosts in its test group, while noting its long-term price and entry-level features. Yaqoob wrote, “So DreamHost does not win on raw speed in our data.” The phrase “in our data” matters: these results describe one publisher’s test site, tools, and monitoring period. WPBeginner also discloses that its content is reader-supported and that it may earn commission from links.

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages

  • Standard plans combine daily automated backups, SSL certificates, NVMe storage, and unmetered bandwidth.
  • The listed site, storage, and visit allowances are substantial for a small or growing multi-site setup, provided the workload fits the plan.
  • DreamPress adds staging, daily and on-demand backups, caching, a CDN, and developer tools for customers who want more managed functionality.
  • WPBeginner recorded 100% uptime during its 30-day monitoring period, though that short test does not predict every customer’s experience.

Disadvantages

  • The lowest advertised standard-plan monthly equivalent requires a four-year commitment paid on that term, and the renewal rate is higher.
  • Standard WordPress Hosting does not list DreamPress’s staging and CDN features.
  • DreamHost uses its own control panel rather than cPanel, which may be inconvenient if you rely on cPanel workflows.
  • WPBeginner’s test found slower performance than other budget hosts in its comparison group.
  • WPBeginner reports that standard hosting offers 24/7 live chat and email but no standard phone line; callbacks are paid.

Support, control panel, and email

WPBeginner reports that DreamHost’s control panel is proprietary rather than cPanel, while still providing common site-management and developer functions. If you or a migration workflow depend on cPanel, account for the change before switching.

According to WPBeginner, standard hosting support is available through live chat and email 24/7; phone callbacks are paid rather than a standard phone-support line. DreamPress describes 24/7 in-house WordPress support and lists scheduled phone callback allowances by plan. Confirm the callback terms on the DreamPress plan you are considering.

WPBeginner also reports that email is a paid add-on after an initial free period on standard Web Hosting plans. The WordPress plan page lists three months of included mailboxes. Since package and renewal terms can differ, check what happens to domain email after the included period if it is important to your setup.

Is DreamHost worth it for your site?

  • Consider standard WordPress Hosting if you want low-cost core hosting, daily backups and SSL, and can accept the selected term’s upfront bill and renewal price.
  • Consider DreamPress if staging, CDN, caching, on-demand backups, migration help, or managed WordPress support are worth the additional cost to you.
  • Look elsewhere or compare carefully if cPanel is essential, you need a standard phone support line, or your performance requirements call for results beyond what the published test can establish.

Before purchase, match site count, storage, and visit allowance to your needs, then compare the full amount due, renewal terms, backup and restore options, support channels, and the features included in the exact plan. The current WordPress.org hosting page retrieved for this review does not list DreamHost, so older claims that it is currently featured there should not be treated as confirmed.
