DreamHost can host websites you manage for clients, but it does not offer a dedicated reseller plan. Its approach is to add client domains to your own active hosting account, then handle client billing, account management, and support yourself. If you need white-label branding, automated provisioning, a reseller dashboard, or the host to bill your customers, this is not the conventional reseller setup you may be looking for.

What DreamHost means by reseller hosting

DreamHost states, “DreamHost does not offer a specific Reseller plan.” Its reselling documentation describes an account-based arrangement instead: use an active hosting plan to host client domains and, if appropriate, grant clients limited account access.

There is no reseller signup process. You remain the service provider from the client’s perspective: you set and collect charges, manage domains and accounts, and provide technical and customer support. DreamHost does not bill your clients, and its services cannot be rebranded. Its documentation also says panel customization is unavailable.

Who this arrangement suits—and who it doesn’t

It may suit a freelancer or small agency

This can work for a freelancer or small agency that already manages client websites, wants to bundle hosting administration into a wider service, and is comfortable owning the client relationship. This is a fit assessment based on the responsibilities DreamHost describes, not a promise of a particular business outcome.

It is a poor fit if you need white-label operations

Look elsewhere if your model depends on branded hosting panels, automated client provisioning, the host billing end customers, or the host providing first-line client support. DreamHost’s documented arrangement leaves those client-facing jobs with you and does not permit rebranding.

What responsibility do you take on?

The account holder is responsible for client content and behavior under DreamHost’s policies. DreamHost says violations of its Terms of Service, Anti-Spam Policy, or Unlimited Policy by a client are treated as if the account holder had committed them. Before putting client sites under one account, consider whether you can monitor compliance and respond to problems across all those sites.

Which DreamHost hosting type should you compare?

DreamHost’s hosting documentation describes Web Hosting, Managed VPS, VPS, Dedicated, and DreamPress. Its current Web Hosting tiers are named Launch, Growth, and Scale. The key differences for a multi-client workload are resource sharing, server maintenance, control, and how many sites a plan accommodates.

Hosting type Resource and maintenance details Control and site arrangement
Web Hosting CPU and RAM are shared among users; unusually high traffic on another site can affect performance. DreamHost’s cited comparison does not state a specific multi-site limit here. Check the current tier details for your intended setup.
Managed VPS DreamHost says your RAM is protected from other users on the same physical machine, and DreamHost maintains the software and security. No full root access. DreamHost says customers can add as many domains as they like.
VPS You manage the environment, including configuration, maintenance, and security. Full root access. DreamHost says customers can add as many domains as they like.
Dedicated Dedicated resources. Sudo/root access; DreamHost says customers can add as many domains as they like.
DreamPress Not stated in the cited hosting comparison. One website per plan.

These descriptions do not establish that one option is universally faster or better. DreamHost’s official plan documentation explains the distinctions above, but it does not provide independent reseller performance tests or comparative uptime measurements. Check the current plan details before choosing; features and offers can change.

Could a DreamHost partner or referral program fit better?

Agency Partner Program

DreamHost’s Agency Partner Program is aimed at agencies, studios, and freelancers. The program page lists a partner success manager, referral commissions, priority support, free white-glove migrations, early feature access, co-marketing opportunities, hosting discounts of up to 25%, VIP technical support, a sandbox environment, and a partner badge. The page invites applications for early access, so confirm current enrollment and eligibility rather than assuming acceptance or access is guaranteed. This program is a partner route, not the same as reselling hosting directly from your own account.

TUNE affiliate referrals

If you would rather send clients to create their own DreamHost accounts, DreamHost’s reseller article points to its affiliate program. The TUNE commission guide lists reward tiers by hosting product and subscription length and says new signups see the Tier 1 offer. The affiliate terms require a referred customer to be new and unique, use your affiliate link, complete signup within 30 days of clicking, and maintain an active paid hosting account for at least 97 days. Attribution, cancellations, reversals, and payment-information requirements also apply; a commission is not guaranteed. DreamHost’s public affiliate page describes monthly direct bank transfer after the holding period, subject to eligibility. Disclose the affiliate relationship when recommending a link, and verify the current terms before relying on a reward amount.

Questions to settle before choosing

  • Are you prepared to set prices, collect payment, manage accounts, and handle client support yourself?
  • Can you operate without a branded hosting panel or reseller dashboard?
  • Do you understand that you are responsible for client content and conduct under DreamHost’s policies?
  • Does the hosting type match your need for shared or protected resources, server maintenance, root access, and multiple domains?
  • Would a partner program or referral arrangement better match how you work with clients?
