On Metacritic’s all-platform listings accessed October 8, 2026, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has an 86 critic Metascore, while the PC listing for Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen has an 81. That is a five-point gap between the listed critic scores—not a same-platform comparison, and not a score for the upcoming Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen expansion.
How the Metacritic scores compare
| Listing | Critic Metascore | Critic reviews | User score | Listing context |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dragon’s Dogma 2 | 86 | 83 | 6.5 from 2,689 user ratings | All-platform listing |
| Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen | 81 | 62 | 7.9 from 908 user ratings | PC listing; Metacritic shows January 15, 2016 as its release date |
These figures are snapshots of the respective Metacritic listings, accessed October 8, 2026: Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen. The listings cover different release records and critic-review samples, so the five-point difference should not be read as a controlled comparison between editions on the same platform.
Does the score belong to the new Dark Arisen expansion?
No. Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is the older game in the comparison. Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is a separate expansion for the 2024 sequel, announced by Capcom for release on October 9, 2026. Capcom describes it as a paid expansion adding a new story to Dragon’s Dogma 2 in its June 10, 2026 announcement.

What the scores do—and do not—say
The 86-versus-81 comparison is specifically about critic Metascores. Metacritic’s displayed user scores go the other way: 6.5 for Dragon’s Dogma 2 and 7.9 for the opened Dark Arisen listing. User scores are a separate measure from critic Metascores, so they should not be blended into the five-point critic-score comparison.
The review-pool sizes also differ: the sequel listing has 83 critic reviews, compared with 62 for the older PC listing. Metascores and rating counts can change as listings are updated; these numbers describe the pages as accessed on October 8, 2026.

How the products differ
Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen
The older title is a standalone action RPG. Its Steam listing describes AI Pawn companions, multiple vocations, and Bitterblack Isle content. It is the game represented by the 81 Metascore in this comparison.
Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen
The 2026 product is an expansion for Dragon’s Dogma 2, not a re-release of the older game. The US PlayStation Store listing, accessed October 8, 2026, listed it at $29.99 with an October 9, 2026 release date and states it cannot be used without the base game. Price and availability are specific to that listing and market; see the US PlayStation Store page for its terms. Capcom also announced a Nintendo Switch 2 version combining the main game and expansion content in one package.
