Dragon’s Dogma 2 has three ways to cover ground quickly: Oxcarts, Ferrystones, and, since the June 2026 update, the reusable Eternal Ferrystone. The part that trips people up is that a Ferrystone and a Portcrystal are not the same thing. The Ferrystone is the item that starts the jump. The Portcrystal is the place you land. Guides written at launch miss several of the changes below.
How the three systems fit together
- Oxcart: transport along a fixed route between settlements. It can be interrupted.
- Ferrystone: teleports you and your party to an active or placed Portcrystal. Ordinary Ferrystones are consumed on use.
- Eternal Ferrystone: does the same teleport without being used up.
- Portcrystal: the destination. Owning Ferrystones does not create destinations. A portable Portcrystal does nothing until you place it.
Choosing a travel method

| Ordinary Ferrystone | Teleports to an available Portcrystal. | Direct, but it uses a consumable and needs a usable destination. |
| Eternal Ferrystone | Teleports to an available Portcrystal repeatedly. | Reusable, but still needs a destination and can be unavailable in restricted situations. |
| Walking | No cart or stone needed. | Slower, but the route can turn up quests, materials, caves, tokens, and encounters. |
If you know where you are going and a Portcrystal is near it, teleporting is the most direct option. An Oxcart suits a route it already serves, or a stop partway along one. Walk when the trip itself has things you haven’t explored. For timed quests, use whichever option gets the party closest to the objective soonest.

What changed in the June 2026 update
These details come from Capcom’s update notes as reported by PC Gamer in June 2026. A current guide published in August 2026 backs them up. Capcom’s own patch page could not be checked directly.

The Eternal Ferrystone
The patch notes say: “Added the fast travel item Eternal Ferrystone.” You receive it after speaking with Captain Brant during the “Seat of the Sovran” quest. If you had already finished that quest when you installed the update, the item is placed in your inventory instead.

Ferrystones from the map
You can now use Ferrystones from the map by moving the cursor to a Portcrystal.
New Portcrystals
The update added fixed Portcrystals at Melve, Checkpoint Rest Town, and Volcanic Island Camp. It also added a portable Portcrystal as a reward for “Monster Culling.” The current guide lists these fixed Portcrystals:

The update added Oxcart Stopovers, so you can get off at supported intermediate points. “Doze Off” is available sooner. Departure hours now run from morning through evening. A mini-map icon appears when an Oxcart is nearby.

Setting up fast travel
- Progress the early Vernworth story to Brant’s conversation in “Seat of the Sovran” to get the Eternal Ferrystone. Keep it in your inventory.
- Activate each fixed Portcrystal you come across.
- Place portable Portcrystals near objectives or services you expect to revisit.
- Move a portable Portcrystal when a quest ends, or when one of the new fixed crystals makes it redundant.
Oxcart tips
Check the destination before you pay. Stations in the same settlement may serve different directions. An ambush can still interrupt a ride, and the update changes stopovers and operating hours but not that risk.

If Ferrystone travel won’t work
- Confirm that the destination Portcrystal is active, or that you have placed a portable one.
- Check your location and story state. The current guide says you may need open space or to be outdoors. Treat that as a practical hint, not a complete list of restrictions for every quest or version.
- Look for the item in your inventory if you finished “Seat of the Sovran” before updating.
