Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on 9 October 2026. The package includes both the original game and its new expansion, and an early review from Nintendo Life describes the port as a strong effort: performance is much improved over the game at its original launch, though loading is longer, some moments are choppy, and visuals trail the PS5 Pro version.
What is Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen?
It is a new paid expansion for Dragon’s Dogma 2, the action role-playing game first released in March 2024. Capcom announced it for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a scheduled release date of 9 October 2026. As of 8 October 2026, that date is still upcoming.
The platform packaging differs: Switch 2 receives the base game and expansion together, while PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC receive the new content as expansion DLC. So the Switch 2 edition is also an entry point for anyone who does not already own the original game.

A new northern region and story
The adventure moves into Norgan, a snowy, long-abandoned northern region. The story follows Eir and the investigation of the undying Fallen Dragon. Nintendo’s product description also says relics can be appraised to unlock weapons and skills.

Lost Rites and a loot cycle
Nintendo identifies 12 “Lost Rites” dungeon challenges. The expansion’s director, Kento Kinoshita, told GamesRadar+ that the new Dark Arisen is less focused on dungeon crawling than the original game’s expansion. Instead, it centers on a new open-world region and story, with dungeon challenges along the way and a relic-based equipment cycle.
The returning name is a thematic nod, not a claim that the two expansions are the same. Kinoshita said Capcom chose it for its connection to the new story, the loot-oriented gameplay, and because the familiar name helps convey what players can expect. The first Dragon’s Dogma also received an expansion called Dark Arisen; this new project revisits some of that identity while expanding the world and story in a different direction.

How does the Switch 2 version run?
Nintendo Life’s review calls the port a strong Switch 2 release and says performance is much better than Dragon’s Dogma 2 at its original launch. That praise comes with specific compromises. The reviewer reports longer loading in Pawn rifts and around cutscenes, occasional choppy frame-rate moments that are more noticeable when docked, and visibly reduced image quality compared with PS5 Pro.
Recommended Free Tools
Those are one reviewer’s observations, not controlled benchmark results or a guarantee of how every player will experience the game. The reviewed Switch 2 settings include FSR 3 Frame Generation, a locked 30fps option, and a variable frame-rate option. Nintendo Life found frame generation made the locked option feel smoother, but generally preferred variable frame rate. The available review does not establish battery life or measured resolution.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
The trade-off is portability and a combined base-game-plus-expansion package versus longer loads and lower visual fidelity than the review’s PS5 Pro comparison. If you value playing on the go, the Switch 2 edition looks like a credible way to experience the full game; if image quality and performance are your priorities, the cited review favors PS5 Pro.
Why the expansion exists—and why “coming full circle” fits
Capcom producer Naoto Oyama told GamesRadar+ that the project began after players asked for more exploration and combat following the base game’s release. That response connects the expansion to the series’ earlier history: the first game’s Dark Arisen added a loot-driven adventure, and this expansion borrows the name and some of that design spirit while building a distinct setting and story.

The Switch 2 review also highlights the combat, the distinct feel of the game’s ten vocations, Pawn interactions, and unpredictable encounters during travel. Those systems help explain why a larger new region can be appealing even when the port’s technical compromises are visible.
What is included in the Switch 2 edition?
Capcom says the Switch 2 version combines the original game and the expansion in one package. Those specifications and the rating are UK storefront details; availability, file size, and ratings can vary by region.

Quick Recap
Should you consider the Switch 2 version?
- Consider it if you want the base game and expansion together, value handheld play, or are new to Dragon’s Dogma 2.
- Consider another platform if visual fidelity and performance are more important than portability; the cited review found the Switch 2 image quality below PS5 Pro.
- Wait for more player reports if loading times or frame-rate consistency are deal-breakers. The available review does not provide controlled benchmarks or battery-life measurements.
