Wild Forest Studio developed Dragon Shelter, and Curve Games publishes it as a single-player farming simulation on Steam. Steam lists September 24, 2026 as the release date, and the official launch announcement confirms the game launched on that day. The official description centers on rebuilding an abandoned farm, growing crops, cooking and crafting, helping townspeople, exploring a magical world, and caring for dragon companions.
The developer’s “The Road to Release” post describes farm, town, kitchen, animal husbandry, villager craft, and dragon systems as sharing resource flows. Curve Games’ overview adds that crops and gathered resources connect to cooking, crafting, alchemy, and trade. Animal products are therefore designed to be part of the same economy, though the specific products are not yet documented.

What is confirmed about animal ranching
- Animal husbandry exists as a named system. The developer lists it among the connected systems, so it is an intended part of the game.
- Ranching appears early. A PC Gamer account of the first season, published September 25, 2026, describes a new rancher asking the player to repair a watering dish for a creature. The reviewer expected animal tending to unlock later in that same first season.
- Dragons are companions with individual traits and powers. Curve Games says these powers can help on the farm and beyond. This is broad framing about dragons, not a care manual for any animal.
The rancher’s watering dish task
The only concrete ranching detail available from early play is the watering dish task. It is the first animal-related job the early account describes, and it shows that creatures on your land need basic supplies. The account does not explain the reward, the dish’s placement rules, how often it must be refilled, or what happens if it runs empty. Treat the task as a starting point for observing how the game presents animal care, not as a confirmed model of daily upkeep.

How to verify the animal system in your own game
Because the official descriptions are broad, the most reliable way to learn the system is to test it in your save and record what you see.
