There is no single best Dragon Ball Legends team for every account. The most reliable way to build one is Bandai Namco’s own rule: build around Z Abilities, then make sure your characters share the Tags or Episodes those abilities target. The current PvP lists below are dated snapshots, and two recent guides disagree on which teams lead.
The official method: build around Z Abilities
Bandai Namco’s party-formation FAQ answers “What are the basics of party formation?” with one sentence: “First, try building a party around Z Abilities.” Characters that share Tags or Episodes benefit from Z Abilities that target those groups. That is why a team of well-matched mid-tier characters can beat a pile of individually strong ones.
Checking synergy in the game
- On the party formation screen, long-press a character’s portrait and select Show Details.
- Read the Z Ability text and note which Tags or Episodes it targets. Do not rely on a team name alone.
- Filter the party formation screen by Tag or Episode to find owned characters that fit.
- Compare your result with the parties used by high-ranking PvP players, which the FAQ also recommends.
How to pick a team for your own account
Choose a three-character battle core first. Use the remaining party slots for buffs and role support. Score each candidate team on these points:

- Reach: do the Z Abilities and Tags or Episodes cover every intended battle member?
- Roles: do you have damage, defense, sustain and disruption covered?
- Matchups: do color and counter needs fit the current environment?
- Mode: is the team meant for standard PvP or Tournament of Power?
A lineup that depends on several high-investment characters may be impractical if you lack them. Both guides below stress flexibility, replacement depth, stars and bench buffs.

Current PvP options: dated snapshots, not a tier list
These are two publications’ judgments, not official findings or a verified in-game leaderboard. They differ a lot, which shows how much the answer depends on the date and the writer.

Pocket Gamer’s view (version 6.29.1)
Pocket Gamer says the meta has several strong teams and matchup interactions rather than one dominant team. It calls Androids comparatively flexible. It names Android 18 as a core damage dealer, with Android 16, Android 21 or Revived Perfect Cell as possible partners. Its Son Family team is described as less flexible and positioned as a counter to Androids.

Playhub focuses on ranked PvP. Examples of its listed cores:

Reconciling the two lists
Treat both as menus of archetypes. If your roster supports one of them, check its Z Abilities in-game and compare it with what top-ranked players are running. If not, apply the method above to what you own. The meta shifts with new characters and balance updates, so recheck the game version before trusting any ranking, including these.

Bandai Namco’s battle guide says standard battles use three fighters chosen from a party of six. Tournament of Power is an automatic, turn-based mode with an eight-character party: six battle members and two backups. A PvP team is not automatically optimal there.

Tournament of Power rules
- Boosts can apply to characters, Tags or Episodes, and can also affect Battle Score.
- Front row: put durable characters here, because enemies prioritize that row.
- Middle row: use it for damage and Ki Recovery bonuses.
- Back row: placement here increases Special Move Gauge charge rate.
- Arts Boost effects apply in this mode.
- Friendship Rank adds 0.5% to stats per rank, up to a 5% maximum at rank 10.
- Mode-exclusive equipment can be exchanged in the Rare Medal Exchange Shop.
These are Tournament of Power rules, not general PvP equipment advice.
