Google Camera 7.0 for Xiaomi is not an official Google app. The files historically shared for Redmi and Mi phones are community-made GCam ports based on the Pixel 4-era camera software. They can add Night Sight, HDR+ and, on compatible builds, Astrophotography, but installation and feature support depend on the exact phone, Snapdragon chipset, Android/MIUI build, Camera2 API implementation, camera drivers and configuration file.

This guide preserves the 2019 download choices and installation method while treating them as archival software in 2026. Google’s current Play listing is for Pixel Camera and states that the latest app works on Pixel devices running Android 16 or later, so do not mistake any APK below for an official Xiaomi-compatible release: Google Play Pixel Camera listing.

Which Xiaomi phones were historically listed?

The October 28, 2019 compatibility list covered the following models. These are historical reports, not guarantees for a particular regional variant, ROM or Android release. The original list is documented by Android Sage.

These mirrors and archives are historical references. Their presence does not establish that a file is currently maintained, audited, malware-free or suitable for Android versions released after the GCam 7.0 era. Prefer an identifiable developer archive, inspect the filename and permissions, and avoid repacked APKs from pop-ups, shortened links or “download manager” pages.

Requirements and compatibility checks

Android and MIUI version

Contemporary guides targeted Android 9 Pie and Android 10 and warned that GCam 7.0 was not intended for Android Oreo or earlier. Newer Android or heavily modified ROM builds may reject the APK or leave features broken. Treat Android 9/10 as the documented target era, not a universal requirement. See the compatibility warnings at DroidViews.

Camera2 API

Camera2 API access is a key prerequisite, but it does not guarantee Astro mode. Install a reputable Camera2 diagnostic tool, inspect the rear main camera and record whether it reports LIMITED, FULL or LEVEL_3. LEGACY or disabled access is a warning. Check auxiliary cameras separately when the tool exposes them. Some older phones required root-based changes to enable Camera2 API; do not modify system files unless you understand the recovery risk.

Chipset and exact variant

The historical list focused on Qualcomm Snapdragon phones. That is a useful selection signal, not proof of compatibility. Confirm the exact model, regional camera sensor, Android version, MIUI or custom-ROM build and available Camera2 levels before choosing an APK.

Install the APK safely

  1. Back up photos and any existing GCam settings. Record your phone model, Android version and ROM build.
  2. Download a file associated with the closest matching device from a named developer archive or established mirror. Do not install a configuration XML yet.
  3. Open the APK in your file manager. If Android blocks it, grant the file manager or browser permission under the system’s Install unknown apps control. The label and location vary by Xiaomi firmware.
  4. Install and launch GCam. Grant camera, microphone and media/storage permissions when requested.
  5. Take several ordinary rear-camera photos first. Test stability before changing advanced settings or attempting Astrophotography.
  6. If the app crashes immediately, uninstall it or clear its data and try a different build intended for the same device and chipset. Do not keep installing random “fix” APKs.

Load a matching XML configuration

Many GCam 7.0 ports used XML files tuned for a particular phone, sensor and APK. A configuration can improve HDR+, Night Sight or Astro behavior, but a mismatched file can cause crashes, black frames or incorrect colors.

  1. Download an XML explicitly made for the same APK version and exact device.
  2. Create the folder required by that port if it was not created automatically. Some builds use Configs7; others use a different path or an in-app configuration manager.
  3. Copy the XML into the required folder.
  4. Open GCam and either use its configuration menu or double-tap the area beside the shutter button, where supported.
  5. Select the XML and load it, then restart the app.

Folder names, restore gestures and menu labels vary by build. If the camera becomes unstable, clear app data, remove the XML and relaunch with defaults.

Enable Astrophotography mode

Astrophotography is an extended low-light sequence derived from Night Sight. It needs a stationary phone for a long exposure and may appear in the interface yet fail on a particular driver or configuration. The 2019 guides described it as experimental; results depend on light pollution, clouds, moonlight, lens quality and the chosen port (DroidViews).

Build-specific flags

One Parrot043 guide exposed Astro through developer flags. In that build, the documented values were:

  • camera.cuttle.darken
  • camera.cuttle.extended
  • camera.cuttle.extended_iterable_burst
  • camera.cuttle.motion_ef
  • camera.cuttle.sky

The general path was Settings, then an About, Advanced or Developer area, followed by the relevant camera flags; return to Night Sight and wait for Astro to appear. These are not official Google settings and are not universal commands. Another modder may omit, rename or ignore them. Follow the documentation for your exact port instead of copying flags blindly.

Shooting procedure

  1. Use the rear main camera first; auxiliary lenses are less consistently supported.
  2. Place the phone on a tripod or stable surface away from bright artificial light.
  3. Open Night Sight and wait for an Astro indicator or prompt.
  4. Start only after the phone is motionless, then avoid touching it during capture.
  5. Allow processing to finish. Review for star trails, motion blur, noise and blown highlights.

Features you may see—and why they vary

Historical GCam 7.0 ports advertised some combination of Night Sight, Astrophotography, HDR+, HDR+ Enhanced, Portrait, Super Res Zoom, Panorama, Photo Sphere, RAW plus JPEG, slow motion, selected 4K video, lens switching and Google Lens-related features. Availability is port- and device-dependent; video resolution, frame rate, stabilization, RAW output and auxiliary cameras are not guaranteed. The feature claims are summarized in Android Sage and DroidViews.

Symptom-led troubleshooting

“App not installed”

  • Check the Android version and whether another GCam package conflicts with it.
  • Remove the old package only after backing up settings.
  • Re-download the APK from the developer archive; an incomplete file can fail installation.
  • Try the device-specific build or correct architecture rather than a generic repack.

Crash on launch

  • Clear app data and remove any automatically loaded XML.
  • Relaunch with default settings, then disable auxiliary lenses and experimental options.
  • Try another port for the same chipset. Use the stock camera if reliability matters more than Pixel processing.

Black preview or black photos

  • Test only the main rear lens and disable auxiliary-camera switching.
  • Restore default settings and try a config made for the exact sensor.
  • Check camera permissions, reboot, and test another build before declaring the hardware incompatible.

No Astrophotography option

  • Confirm that the APK actually includes Astro mode.
  • Use the port’s own instructions; flags from another developer may do nothing.
  • Load a matching XML, stabilize the phone in a dark scene and test from Night Sight.
  • Accept that Camera2 API, drivers or the port may not support Astro on that phone.

Bad colors, halos or excessive noise

  • Remove the XML and return to defaults.
  • Change one setting at a time; avoid copying saturation, HDR-frame or buffer values from an unrelated device.
  • Compare with the stock camera and keep the build that produces dependable images rather than the one with the most experimental controls.

Video or audio fails

These ports generally prioritize still photography. Unless a build documents video support for your exact phone and ROM, use Xiaomi’s stock camera for video, stabilization and predictable audio.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Is GCam 7.0 still worth installing in 2026?

It can be useful on a legacy Xiaomi phone that still runs an Android 9- or Android 10-era ROM and has working Camera2 API access. It is not the default recommendation for newer Android releases: a later, device-specific GCam port is more likely to match current drivers and ROM behavior. The stock Xiaomi camera remains the safest fallback, while a manual camera app may be better for predictable shutter, ISO and RAW controls. The official Pixel Camera experience requires a Pixel device according to Google’s current listing: Google Play.

How to choose between ports

  1. Match the exact phone and regional camera hardware.
  2. Match Android and MIUI or custom-ROM versions.
  3. Verify Camera2 API on the main and auxiliary cameras.
  4. Prioritize stable HDR+ and ordinary photos before Astro or lens switching.
  5. Check whether the developer archive identifies changes and known limitations.
  6. Reject files with forced downloaders, suspicious permissions or opaque repackaging.
  7. Keep a simple reset path: clear app data, remove the XML and return to the stock camera when needed.

The Bottom Line

GCam 7.0 can deliver Pixel-style still photography and experimental Astrophotography on some older Xiaomi Snapdragon phones, but every APK and XML combination is a compatibility experiment. Verify Camera2 API, use a matching build from an identifiable archive, test ordinary photos first and consider a newer device-specific port before treating this six-year-old software as a current solution.
