41.3.A.0.401 is a historical Sony Xperia firmware build associated with the Android 8.0 Oreo rollout for the Xperia XZ, Xperia XZs and Xperia X Performance families. It is not a universal file for every phone carrying one of those retail names. Confirm the exact model, SIM configuration, carrier, country and customization before installing. Use an official OTA or Xperia Companion first; use an FTF package only after the variant match is proven.
What build 41.3.A.0.401 means
The 41.3.A.0.401 string identifies a Sony Xperia software build. The 41.3 portion identifies the software branch, A indicates one regional or product-customization branch, and 0.401 is the release revision. It is separate from the phone’s model number, CDA or customization number, and carrier identifier.
Contemporary coverage associated this build with the Oreo rollout, but the surviving reference is secondary rather than a current Sony release note: the contemporary rollout reference. Sony’s support information listed the Xperia XZ, XZs and X Performance families for Android 8.x Oreo, while warning that timing and availability could vary by operator, market and country: Sony’s Oreo eligibility notice.

Which Xperia phones can use it?
The eligible retail families are:
- Xperia XZ
- Xperia XZs
- Xperia X Performance
- Applicable single-SIM and Dual SIM variants
That list is only a starting point. Before downloading anything, record the exact identifier shown on your handset, such as F8331, F8332, G8231, G8232 or another market-specific model. Also match:
- Single-SIM or Dual SIM hardware
- Country and customization code
- Carrier-branded or unbranded status
- Current software branch and bootloader state
A community archive shows separate 41.3.B, 41.3.C and 41.3.D branches for some Japanese models, alongside other model-specific packages: FTF archive. Therefore, a file labelled 41.3.A.0.401 must not be treated as compatible with every XZ, XZs or X Performance.
Check your phone before downloading
- Open Settings.
- Open System or About phone; the label differs by Android version and region.
- Open Build number, Software information or the equivalent entry.
- Write down or photograph the model number, Android version, complete build string and any service or customization information shown.
Use those details—not the retail name alone—to select firmware.
Safest method: install the OTA if Sony offers it
- Charge the phone above 50%, preferably while connected to power.
- Back up photos, messages, authenticator data and other important content.
- Connect to reliable Wi-Fi.
- Open Settings > System > Software update, or the equivalent update menu on your firmware.
- Check for updates and install only an update offered for that exact handset and region.
- Keep the phone connected to power and do not interrupt the reboot. The first start can take longer than usual.
The OTA may be unavailable now because the rollout was phased by market and carrier or because Sony no longer serves this historical package. Remaining on Android 7 does not by itself prove that the phone is faulty; an imported or carrier-specific model may have followed a different schedule.

Requirements
- Windows 10 64-bit with Microsoft’s Extended Security Updates or Windows 11, or a macOS version still supported by Apple
- Internet access
- At least 5 GB of free disk space
- A USB port and a known-good data cable
Repair procedure
- Install Xperia Companion from Sony and open it.
- Choose Software repair under Manage your Xperia.
- Follow the on-screen prompts and connect the powered-off phone when requested.
- Leave the cable connected until the tool reports completion.
- Allow the phone to reboot and finish setup.
Sony says the repair itself normally takes about 10–15 minutes, but downloading and the first boot can extend the total time: Sony’s software-repair instructions.
Critical data and account warning
Software repair deletes data in internal storage. Back up first. Sony states that files on an external SD card are not deleted by the repair, but removing or separately backing up the card is prudent. The Google account previously associated with the phone may be required after repair because Factory Reset Protection can activate. Do not begin unless you know those credentials.
FTF files and manual flashing
An FTF is a Sony Xperia firmware package used by third-party flashing utilities such as Flashtool. It is not a normal OTA package and an archive hosting it is not Sony’s official distribution channel. The choices are:

| OTA | Install an update through the phone’s update system | May no longer be offered for an old or imported variant |
| Xperia Companion | Official computer update or software repair | Software repair erases internal storage |
| FTF flashing | Manual installation with a community tool | Wrong customization can cause data loss, boot loops or a non-booting phone |
Checks required before an FTF download
- Exact model identifier and SIM configuration
- Country, carrier and customization code
- Matching branch, such as
41.3.A,41.3.B,41.3.Cor41.3.D - Complete, authentic package from a reputable archive
- Backup of internal data
- Reliable USB cable, drivers and computer
High-level flashing workflow
- Confirm the handset and regional match before obtaining the package.
- Install the flashing utility and the correct Xperia USB drivers.
- Back up the phone and read the utility’s wipe options; never assume data preservation.
- Power the handset off, select the matching firmware in the utility and enter the requested flash mode.
- Do not disconnect the cable while flashing.
- Allow the first boot to complete, then verify Android version, full build number, network and hardware functions.
Exact menus, drivers and supported operating systems vary by utility. Manual flashing can complicate warranty or service support and is unnecessary when Xperia Companion repairs the phone successfully. Stock firmware flashing should not be confused with installing a custom ROM; bootloader requirements depend on the specific tool and package.
Verify the result
After the phone starts, return to the software-information screen and confirm both Android 8.0 and the complete build string. Then test a call, mobile data, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, camera and, on Dual SIM models, both SIM slots. A missing radio, camera or SIM function is a strong sign of a regional or model mismatch rather than a normal Oreo change.
Troubleshooting and recovery
Computer does not detect the phone
- Try another USB port and a known-good data cable; avoid hubs.
- Reinstall or update Xperia drivers.
- Check internet access and firewall permissions for Xperia Companion and Sony components.
- Remove the SD card temporarily if communication continues to fail.
These checks follow Sony’s troubleshooting guidance: Sony USB and update troubleshooting.

The first boot appears frozen
Do not interrupt it immediately. Sony says startup after an update or repair can take up to 30 minutes and may include several restarts: Sony startup guidance. If it remains stuck beyond that period, force a shutdown and run another Xperia Companion software repair.

The phone will not boot
Try Sony’s force procedure by holding Power and Volume Up until the phone vibrates; the vibration pattern distinguishes shutdown from restart in Sony’s guidance. If it still will not start, use Xperia Companion software repair and expect internal-storage deletion.
OTA is missing or a flash failed
Possible causes include an unreleased carrier variant, an imported handset, a later regional branch, retired Sony servers, modified software, an unlocked bootloader or an incorrect package. Return to Xperia Companion before attempting another manual flash. If the phone boots but has no network, camera or SIM functionality, stop and recheck the customization rather than repeatedly flashing the same file.

Can I flash it without wiping data?
Do not rely on that. FTF tools have selectable wipe behavior, while Xperia Companion software repair erases internal storage. Make a complete backup first.
Is an FTF an official Sony download?
No. It is a community firmware package used with third-party flashing tools, even when its contents originate from Sony firmware.
The Bottom Line
Check OTA first, then use Xperia Companion if the phone needs an official computer repair. Download or flash an FTF only after the exact model, region, carrier, SIM configuration and firmware branch match; never choose it solely because the filename contains 41.3.A.0.401.
