A USB-C cable’s wattage rating tells you about charging power—not how quickly it transfers files or whether it can carry video. Choose by matching three separate capabilities—charging, data, and display support—to the devices you plan to connect, then verify the cable’s exact model and specifications.
Why wattage alone is not enough
USB-C describes the connector, not a single guaranteed level of performance. Cables with the same plug can differ in charging capacity, data rate, and video support. USB-IF says its cable certification program covers cables for different purposes and that users must choose a cable suited to their USB environment; certification does not add capabilities to connected devices. USB-IF’s cable marking guidance explains the distinctions.
USB-IF’s compliance program requires USB-C-to-USB-C cable categories to identify either 60W or 240W power capability. That marking is about power; it does not establish the cable’s data speed or video capability. USB Power Delivery itself supports delivery of up to 240W, but the charger, cable, and receiving device all need to support the required power level. USB-IF’s Power Delivery overview describes the standard’s capabilities.

Charging power
Start with the power your phone, laptop, or other device needs, and check the specifications of the device and charger as well as the cable. USB-IF’s overview maps fixed voltage levels of 28V, 36V, and 48V to up to 140W, 180W, and 240W, respectively. These are USB Power Delivery capability figures, not a claim that every device accepts those levels. A cable’s wattage rating alone cannot guarantee that a particular setup will charge at that rate.

Data speed
If you connect an external drive, dock, or other data device, check the supported USB standard and data rate for both device ports and the cable. A high power rating does not imply fast transfers: Apple lists a two-meter USB-C Charge Cable rated for up to 240W that transfers data at USB 2 speeds. Apple’s 240W cable specifications show why power and data must be assessed separately.
USB-IF’s compliance marking requirements include supported data-rate markings for USB-C-to-USB-C cables, except High-Speed USB (USB 2.0) cables. Read the specific data-rate or standard claim rather than assuming that a charging logo answers the question.

- High Power ≠ High Risk | Smarter Compatibility for Every Device: 240W doesn't mean compromising safety—it means unmatched versatility. Thanks to PD3.1 Extended Power Range (EPR) technology, our c to c cable fast charging dynamically adjusts voltage/current to deliver each device's maximum safe power (e.g., 60W to iPads, 100W to older MacBooks, 140W to MacBook Pro). Other 60W/100W usb c to usb c cable can't hit full charging speed for your power-hungry devices—they're held back by their own power limits. LISEN 240W usb-c charge cable? It charges all your gear steadily, efficiently, and at full speed, with zero safety risks
- 240W Ultra Fast Charging | Smart Protocol Matching: This iPhone 18 pro max charger fast charging cable supports PD3.1 EPR/QC4.0 fast charging up to 240W Max, working seamlessly with USB-C Power Delivery adapters (e.g.60W/100W/240W). It automatically matches your device’s handshake protocol to deliver the maximum safe power it can handle. It's 2.4X faster than 100W fast charging usb-c cables: Up to 85% charged in 30 mins for iPhone 18 Pro Max, up to 65% charged in 30 mins for iPad Pro, and up to 80% charged in 30 mins for MacBook Pro 16''(M5). This iPhone 18 charger cord balances speed and protection perfectly, giving you both fast and secure charging
- E-Marker 3.0 Chip | Real-Time Current/Voltage Monitoring: LISEN 240W type c charger fast charging cable has an E-Marker 3.0 + PD3.1 EPR system that actively monitors current/voltage 3.2M+ times per second, ensuring zero overloads, short circuits, or battery damage. Paired with dual safeguards (overheat + surge protection) and PD3.1/QC4.0 certifications, it's not just a USB-C to USB-C cable—it's a smart guardian for your devices
- Premium Copper Core | Conductivity Meets Durability: This high speed usb c cable fast charging is upgraded from standard copper to 99.99% oxygen-free copper cores—thicker, purer, and lower-resistance. This means: (1) Stable power delivery even at 240W (no energy loss or heat buildup). (2) Longer lifespan (resists corrosion and wear, unlike cheaper alloys). (3) Faster data sync (480Mbps) with minimal signal interference
Video and display support
For a monitor or other display, verify that the cable’s stated standard supports video and that the computer, dock, and display also support the connection you want. Apple’s cable comparison distinguishes its Thunderbolt 3 USB-C cable, which supports video, from its USB-C Charge Cable, which does not. The shared connector shape does not make them interchangeable for display use. Apple’s cable comparison provides those product-specific details.
Connector ends, length, and the rest of the setup
Check that both ends fit the intended devices and that the cable is long enough for your setup. Do not infer charging, data, or video performance from appearance or length. Also check every device in the connection: a cable cannot make a host, charger, dock, or display support a feature it lacks.

How to verify a cable’s specifications and certification
- Write down what the connection needs. Note the required charging power, data rate, and whether video is needed. Include the ports and capabilities of the devices at both ends.
- Compare the cable’s exact specifications. Look for separate claims for power, data standard or rate, and video support. A wattage figure alone does not answer the latter two questions.
- Check USB-IF certification if it matters to your purchase. Search the USB-IF certified product list for the exact model. The public search covers products listed as certified to bear USB-IF logos, is maintained by member companies, and defaults to products certified in the preceding two years. Confirm the model and its current specification; a broad listing title may not describe every detail you need.
- Check the complete connection. Confirm that the charger, host, dock, and display also support the power, data, or video capability you intend to use.
USB-IF’s document library lists the USB Type-C Cable and Connector Specification Release 2.5, dated April 8, 2026, and USB Power Delivery Specification Revision 3.2 Version 1.2, dated September 14, 2026. The standards evolve, so use current model-specific documentation when making a purchase. USB-IF announced its 60W and 240W cable power-rating logos on September 30, 2021. USB-IF’s document library and logo announcement provide the dated references.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which cable makes sense for your use?
| Use | What to prioritize | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| Charging only | Power capability suitable for the device, charger, and cable together. | That a high wattage rating means fast data or video support. |
| External drive or other fast data accessory | The required data standard and rate across the cable and device ports. | That the connector or power rating reveals transfer speed. |
| Monitor or display connection | Video support for the cable and compatible video capabilities at each end. | That every USB-C cable carries video. |
| One cable for demanding mixed use | Separate confirmation of the needed power, data rate, and video support for the exact model. | That a single cable is automatically right for every device or setup. |
If you need both high-power charging and fast data, a search such as “USB-C cable 240W 40Gbps USB4” can help surface candidates, but the query does not guarantee availability or compatibility. For ordinary charging, those top-end data and power specifications may be unnecessary; choose to your actual device requirements.
