No. Zelle says it does not report payments made on the Zelle Network to the IRS and does not issue Form 1099-K for those network transactions, even when payments exceed $600. That does not make taxable income tax-free: the IRS says taxable income must be reported whether or not you receive a Form 1099-K.
Does Zelle report to the IRS?
Zelle’s stated policy is that it does not report transactions made on the Zelle Network to the IRS or issue Form 1099-K for those payments. The policy concerns reporting by the Zelle Network; it should not be read as a claim about every record a bank may keep or every reporting duty another entity could have. See Zelle’s FAQ.
Does Zelle report payments over $600?
No. Zelle says it does not report Zelle Network payments over $600 to the IRS. The $600 figure does not change Zelle’s stated treatment of payments on its network.

There is also a separate, recently changed federal threshold for third-party settlement organizations. The IRS’s Form 1099-K FAQ, with updates released October 23, 2025, says a third-party settlement organization generally is required to file for a payee only when reportable payments exceed $20,000 and the number of reportable transactions exceeds 200. Both conditions must be met. This is not a Zelle reporting threshold. Payment-card transactions have a different rule: the IRS says there is no minimum threshold for Form 1099-K reporting of those transactions. See the IRS Form 1099-K general FAQ.

Will Zelle send me a 1099-K?
Zelle says it does not issue Form 1099-K for transactions made on the Zelle Network, including payments for goods and services and small-business receipts. This describes Zelle’s network; it does not establish what another payment settlement entity might report in a different situation.
Form 1099-K is an information return that reports gross payment amounts for certain payment-card and qualifying third-party network transactions involving goods or services. It is not a tax bill, and the gross amount alone does not establish taxable profit. Fees, refunds, the seller’s cost or basis, and the nature of the payment can matter. The IRS explains how to review the form and report its amounts in What to do with Form 1099-K.

Are Zelle payments taxable?
Whether a payment is taxable depends on what the money was for, not simply on whether it arrived through Zelle or whether a 1099-K was issued. The IRS says income is taxable unless tax law excludes it, even when no Form 1099-K arrives. Conversely, receiving a form does not automatically make every amount on it taxable.
